Gymnastics is a sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills.
Acrobatic gymnastics is a competitive gymnastic discipline where partnerships of gymnasts work together and perform figures consisting of acrobatic moves, dance and tumbling, set to music. There are three types of routines; a 'balance' routine where the focus is on strength, poise and flexibility; a 'dynamic' routine which includes throws, somersaults and catches, and a 'combined' routine which includes elements from both balance and dynamic.
Aerobic gymnastics or sport aerobics is a competitive sport originating from traditional aerobics in which complex, high-intensity movement patterns and elements of varying difficulty are performed to music.
Izabela Daniela Lăcătuş is a retired Romanian artistic and aerobic gymnast. She was an alternate to the artistic gymnastics team at the 1992 Olympics. After retiring from artistic gymnastics she had a career in aerobic gymnastics, winning 16 world and continental medals including the 2000 individual world title.
The men's individual all-around at the European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships have been staged since 1955.
Gymnastics will be contested at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 13 to August 22 at the Bao'an District Gym and the Futain Sports Park Gym in Shenzhen, China. In artistic gymnastics, team, individual all-around, and individual events were held for both men and women. In rhythmic gymnastics, individual and group competitions were held. In aerobic gymnastics, mixed pairs, trios, group, aero-dance, and aero-step competitions were held.
Oana Corina Constantin is a retired senior Romanian aerobic gymnast. She is the 2013 World Games Champion in Individual Woman, 2016 World Champion in Individual Woman, 2014 World Champion in Trio and Group, as well as 2015 and 2011 European Champion in Individual Woman. She has been called Romania's most successful aerobic gymnast since Izabela Lăcătuș.
Russian Federation participated at the I European Games, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 12 to 28 June 2015. Russia sent athletes for every sport except athletics, as the level of Russian athletes was too high, according to Russia's Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko. The 29th Acrobatic Gymnastics European Championships was held in Holon, Israel from October 30 to November 3, 2019. The competition took place at the Holon Toto Hall. This was the first time that Israel has hosted an acrobatic gymnastics competition at an international level.
