The competition was founded in 2001 and was initially staged as a one-off meeting before the single event was replaced by the Speedway European Championship series in 2012.

The 2021 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 27th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 76th FIM Speedway World Championship. The series was dominated by Polish venues once again with six of the 11 races taking place in Poland. Great Britain and Germany did not hold an event, however Russia was added to the calendar for the first time. In 2020, six of the eight races had been held in Poland.

The Svítkov Stadium is a 10,000-capacity speedway stadium in the Svítkov area of Pardubice, Czech Republic. The stadium is located in the west of Svítkov, which itself is located on the western outskirts of the city. The speedway track has a circumference of 400 metres and is home to the speedway team AMK Zlatá Přilba Pardubice.

The Güstrow Speedway Stadium is an 8,000-capacity speedway stadium in Güstrow, Germany. The stadium is located on the eastern outskirts of the town, just off the Plauer Chaussee 4.
