The Turkmenistan national U-23 football team represents Turkmenistan in international U-23 football competitions. It is controlled by the Football Association of Turkmenistan and is a member of the Asian Football Confederation. The side has never qualified for the Olympic Games.

Founded in 2008, the club competes in the Ýokary Liga, the top tier of Turkmen football. It has remained there ever since, winning the Turkmenistan Higher League championship eight times in a row. The club also won the Turkmenistan Cup for 5 times in 2009, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2020 and has been regular in AFC Cup recently. The team plays in the Ashgabat Stadium.

Nusaý Stadium is a stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home for FC Aşgabat and training of the Turkmenistan national football team. It has a capacity of 3000.

The national association regularly takes part in competitions organised by FIFA and the AFC at senior and youth level. Valeri Nepomniachi is probably the most famous name in Turkmen football. He was the coach who led Cameroon to the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. The Africans surprised many with their 1–0 win over defending champions Argentina in the opening match and finally bowed out in the quarter-finals. There are 40 clubs, 820 players, and 30 referees in the country. The major stadiums are: Köpetdag Stadium, Nabitchi, and The Builder.

Didar Gurbangeldiyevich Durdyyev is a Turkmen professional footballer, who plays as a forward for Ýokary Liga club FC Ahal and the Turkmenistan national football team.

Abdylla Gurbannepesov is a Turkmen professional futsal and former soccer player. He is currently a member of Migrasiya futsal club in the Turkmenistan Futsal League. Captain of Turkmenistan national futsal team.

The 2021 Ýokary Liga is the 29th season of the Ýokary Liga, Turkmenistan's top division of association football. FC Altyn Asyr are the defending champions from the 2020 campaign. The season began on 20 October 2021 and will conclude in December 2021. The winners of the league this season will earn a spot in 2022 AFC Champions League, and the second placed club will earn a place in the 2022 AFC Cup.
