The Turkmenistan national U-23 football team represents Turkmenistan in international U-23 football competitions. It is controlled by the Football Association of Turkmenistan and is a member of the Asian Football Confederation. The side has never qualified for the Olympic Games.

The Turkmenistan national football team represents Turkmenistan in men's international football and it is controlled by the Football Federation of Turkmenistan, the governing body for football in Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan's home ground is the Kopetdag Stadium and their head coach is Mergen Orazow. The team represents FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Ahal Änew Football Club, or simply Ahal FC, is a Turkmen professional football club based in the Änew, Ahal Province. Founded in 1989, the club played its first-ever top flight season in 1992. The club plays its home matches at the 20,000 seater Ashgabat Stadium.
Football Club Altyn Asyr, also known as Altyn Asyr Ashgabat or simply Altyn Asyr, which translates to "Golden Century", is a Turkmen football club based in Ashgabat. Founded in 2008, the club competes in the Ýokary Liga, the top tier of Turkmen football. It has remained there ever since, winning the Turkmenistan Higher League championship eight times in a row. The club also won the Turkmenistan Cup for 5 times in 2009, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2020 and has been regular in AFC Cup recently. The team plays in the Ashgabat Stadium.

He was the coach who led Cameroon to the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. The Africans surprised many with their 1–0 win over defending champions Argentina in the opening match and finally bowed out in the quarter-finals. There are 40 clubs, 820 players, and 30 referees in the country. The major stadiums are: Köpetdag Stadium, Nabitchi, and The Builder.

The 2021 Ýokary Liga is the 29th season of the Ýokary Liga, Turkmenistan's top division of association football. FC Altyn Asyr are the defending champions from the 2020 campaign. The season began on 20 October 2021 and will conclude in December 2021. The winners of the league this season will earn a spot in 2022 AFC Champions League, and the second placed club will earn a place in the 2022 AFC Cup.
