Tyla Rattray (born 12 November 1985) is a South African former professional motocross racer and current motocross team trainer. [1] [2] He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1999 to 2008 and, in the AMA Motocross Championships from 2009 to 2013. [3] [4] He returned to the Motocross World Championships for his final two seasons from 2014 to 2015. Rattray is notable for winning the FIM MX2 world championship in 2008. [1] [5]

Motocross racing career

Born in Durban, South Africa, Rattray made his first foray into international racing in 1999 when he participated in the inaugural FIM 85cc world cup at Gaildorf, Germany. Although completely unfamiliar with the conditions, he slotted straight into top level of international level racing and finished 3rd in the event. He relocated to Germany in 2000 as part of the Vangani Racing team, and participated in European, German and Dutch Championship events, as well as international races. In 2001, at 15 years of age, he qualified for his first GP races. He also participated in European Championship events, and improved his standing in the Dutch Championship series.

In 2002, he formed part of the Vangani Racing "dream team" with Ben Townley and Tanel Leok. He won the first GP qualifying race of the season at Valkenswaard, and finished 8th in the GP. Later that year, he scored his first GP podium when he finished second at Genk in Belgium. At 16 years of age, he was one of the youngest GP podium finishers ever. He won the Dutch 125cc - and Superfinal titles in 2003 as part of the Bruforce Racing KTM team.

He won his first GP at Bellpuig in Spain in 2004. He finished second to KTM teammate Ben Townley in the world championship series in the 2004 MX2-GP season. Injuries kept him from challenging for the world title in 2005 and 2006. In 2008, he won the F.I.M. MX2-GP world championship riding for the KTM factory racing team managed by former world champion Stefan Everts. Before the start of the season he opted to change his permanent race number from 16 to 4 since it was available. He joins the short list of other South Africans who have taken an F.I.M. World title which include Grant Langston (1 world title) and Greg Albertyn (3 world titles).

Before the start of the 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship season, it was announced the factory KTM team and Rattray were parting ways. [6] Both Rattray and KTM parted mutually as Ratray expressed a greater interest to ride in the United States, following the path of other South Africans such as Grant Langston and Greg Albertyn. Rattray competed in the AMA Motocross Championship for five seasons, finishing in second place in the 250 national championship for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011. [4] [7]

Rattray returned to compete in the 2014 MXGP world championship for the Red Bull Ice 1 - Husqvarna Racing Team owned by Formula One racer, Kimi Räikkönen. [7] He retired from motocross racing after finishing 13th in the 2015 MXGP world championship and, began working as the team trainer and mentor for the Troy Lee Designs / Redbull KTM 250 team. [2]

Tommy Searle

Tommy Searle is an English professional motocross and supercross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2005 to 2008 and competed in the AMA Motocross Championships in 2009 and 2010. He returned to the Motocross World Championships from 2011 to 2019. Searle is a three-time MX2 World vice-champion. His fourteen MX2 Grand Prix victories make him Britain's most successful MX2 rider and ranks third in total victories across all classes to multiple world champions David Thorpe and Jeff Smith.

Tony Cairoli Italian motorcycle racer

Antonio "Tony" Cairoli is an Italian professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Motocross World Championships since 2002. Cairoli is notable for winning nine FIM motocross world championships, second only to ten-time champion Stefan Everts, making him one of the most successful world championship motocross racers in history.

Sven Breugelmans is a Belgian former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1999 to 2008. Breugelmans is notable for being a two-time F.I.M. motocross world championship in the MX3-GP class for 650cc motorcycles.

Max Nagl German motorcycle racer

Maximilian "Max" Nagl is a German professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Motocross World Championships since 2003.

The 2010 FIM Motocross World Championship was the 54th season of World Championship motocross competition. It consisted of three different classes; MX1 and MX2 classes over 15 events beginning on April 4 in Sevlievo, Bulgaria and ending on September 12 in Fermo, Italy, and MX3 over 12 events also beginning on April 4 in Cortelha, Portugal and ending on September 5 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Marvin Musquin is a French professional motocross and supercross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2004 to 2010 and, has competed in the AMA Motocross Championships since 2011.

Jonathan Barragán Nevado is a Spanish former professional motocross and enduro racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2004 to 2018.

Jeffrey Herlings Dutch motorcycle racer

Jeffrey Herlings (born 12 September 1994) is a Dutch professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Motocross World Championships since 2010. Herlings is notable for winning the 2012, 2013, and 2016 MX2 Championships; and the 2018, and 2021 MXGP Championships and has been nicknamed The Bullet.

The 2014 FIM Motocross World Championship was the 58th F.I.M. Motocross World Championship season. It included 17 events including Qatar, Thailand, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Belgium and Mexico.

The 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship was the 59th F.I.M. Motocross World Championship season. It included 18 events, starting at Losail in Qatar on 28 February, and ending at San Bernardino, California in the United States on 20 September. In the main MXGP class, Tony Cairoli was the six-time defending champion, and entered the 2015 season looking to score a record seventh consecutive premier class title, for Red Bull KTM. In the MX2 class, Jordi Tixier was the defending champion, after taking the title in the final race of the 2014 season, also for Red Bull KTM. Tixier defends his title with Team Monster Energy Kawasaki.

Glenn Coldenhoff is a Dutch professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Motocross World Championships since 2013. Coldenhoff was a member of the winning Dutch team at the 2019 Motocross des Nations event that included Jeffrey Herlings and Calvin Vlaanderen.

Romain Febvre is a French professional motocross racer. He has competed in the FIM Motocross World Championships since 2011. Febvre is notable for winning the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship in the MXGP class for motorcycles displacing 450cc.

Gautier Paulin French motorcycle racer

Gautier Paulin is a French former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2008 until 2020. Paulin was a member of the French team that won five consecutive Motocross des Nations events between 2014 and 2018.

Tim Gajser is a Slovenian professional motocross racer. He has competed in the FIM Motocross World Championships since 2012. Gajser is notable for being a four-time motocross world champion.

The 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship was the 61st FIM Motocross World Championship season. It included 20 events, starting at Losail in Qatar on 25 February, and ending at Villars-sous-Écot in France on 17 September. In the main MXGP class, Tim Gajser was the defending champion after taking his first title in 2016. In the MX2 class, Jeffrey Herlings was the 2016 champion, but he moved up to the MXGP class after taking his third MX2 title.

Zach Osborne is an American professional motocross, supercross and enduro racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 2006 to 2007 and in the Motocross World Championships from 2008 to 2012, before returning to compete in the AMA Motocross Championships from 2013 to the present. Osborne is notable for winning two AMA motocross national championships and, has represented the United States as a member of American teams at the Motocross des Nations, as well as in the International Six Days Enduro.
