UCWeb Inc. (also known as UC Mobile [1] ) is a Chinese mobile Internet company that offers products and services that include mobile browser, UC News, and search engine services. Its flagship product, UC Browser, topped the Chinese, Indonesian and Indian markets in 2013. [2] [3]

Description

UCWeb was founded in 2004 as a mobile browser maker. Over the past decade, it diversified to areas such as mobile search, mobile gaming, mobile reading, etc. [4] [5] The company's UC Browser is the most popular of its kind in China with more than 66% market share, according to market researcher iResearch. [6] It's available in 11 languages (English, Hindi, Russian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, etc.) and on all major mobile OS platform (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Java ME, Blackberry, etc.). The browser has a fast pageload and economic data consumption made available by its data compression technology and a cloud system. UC Browser has over 500 million users around the globe, as of March 2014. [7]

In April 2014, UCWeb and Alibaba Group jointly announced the formation of a JV named Shenma Inc. (Chinese :神马搜索; pinyin :Shénmǎ Sōusuǒ) that offers a mobile-only search engine in China. [8] [9]

In June 2014, UCWeb was acquired by Alibaba Group in the largest Chinese Internet merger deal. This will see UCWeb form the Alibaba UC mobile business group by assimilating and consolidating part of mobile-related businesses within the Alibaba Group. [10] [11] After the merger, under the leadership of Yu Yongfu, chief executive of UCWeb since 2006, the Alibaba UC mobile business group will oversee the browser, search, location-based service, app store, mobile gaming, and mobile reader operations. [12] [13] [14]

In 2015 it was revealed as part of the Snowden leaks that UCBrowser leaks sensitive IMSI, IMEI and MSISDN data, which was used by intelligence agencies to track users. [15] [16]

The company is headquartered in Beijing and was founded in 2010 by Wang Xing. The company operates different apps and websites for different services. The Meituan site offers deals of the day by selling vouchers on local services and entertainment. By May 2014, the company had 5,000 employees. In 2015, Meituan merged with Dazhong Dianping and changed its name to "Meituan-Dianping". dianping.com hosts consumer reviews of restaurants, similar to Yelp and TripAdvisor, and also offers group buying similar to Groupon. Meituan-Dianping is one of the world's largest online and on-demand delivery platforms. It has over 290 million monthly active users and 600 million registered users as of April 2018. In Q2 2021, GTV of Meituan food delivery business increased by 59.5% year over year. The daily average number of food delivery transactions increased by 58.9% year over year to 38.9 million.

Snap Inc. is an American camera and social media company, founded on September 16, 2011, by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown based in Santa Monica, California. The company developed and maintains technological products and services, namely Snapchat, Spectacles, and Bitmoji. The company was named Snapchat Inc. at its inception, but it was rebranded Snap Inc. on September 24, 2016, in order to include the Spectacles product under the company name.

Shenma Inc. is a "mobile-first" search engine for China that was launched in April 2014. It is a joint venture between Alibaba Group and UCWeb. In April 2017, according to China Internet Watch, Shenma had an 8.8% of the China search engine market share, which made it the second most used search engine after Baidu. Shenma comes with UC Browser, a mobile browser with an estimated 20% share of China's browser market and over 30% of China's mobile browser marketshare. Shenma search was co-founded as a mobile search engine by UCWeb and Alibaba in 2013. In 2014, Alibaba acquired UCWeb.

DingTalk Chinese: 钉钉; pinyin: Dīngdīng) is an enterprise communication and collaboration platform developed by Alibaba Group. It was founded in 2014 and headquartered in Hangzhou. By 2018, it was one of the world's largest professional communication and management mobile apps in China with over 100 million users. International market intentions were announced in 2018. DingTalk provides iOS and Android apps as well as Mac and PC clients.
