The USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California, was founded in 1920 as USC's School of Social Work. [1] [2] The school's only location is in Los Angeles, California. [3]

According to school officials, the facility entertains 114 faculty teaching an estimated 3,500 enrolled students, making the Dworak-Peck School the largest school for social work in the world. [3] This means roughly 1 of every 20 graduate-level social workers in the country graduated from the school. [4] [ dubious ] It also has the oldest MSW and PhD of Social Work programs in the West. [5]

The school was renamed the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work in 2016, after USC alumnus Suzanne Dworak-Peck donated $60 million to the school. It is the largest donation ever to a school of social work. [6] [7]

The program was ranked #25 by the 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking, [8] and offers a Doctor of Social Work degree, as well as a Master of Social Work degree. [9] [10] [11]

California Social Work Hall of Distinction

The California Social Work Hall of Distinction was established in 2002 to honor those involved in bringing about the betterment of society and to ensure that the contributions of social work leaders, innovators and pioneers would be recognized and preserved for the future. [13] It is located in the Montgomery Ross Fisher building on USC campus.[ citation needed ]

Frances Lomas Feldman (1912–2008) was an American social worker and professor at the University of Southern California. She is perhaps best known for conducting a milestone, multi-year three-volume study in the 1970s for the American Cancer Society which provided the first systematic evidence that cancer patients faced discrimination in the workplace. Her areas of teaching had to do with social welfare, including its history, welfare policy, and administration. Hortensia Amaro is a Cuban-American educator, and formerly Distinguished Professor at Northeastern University and Associate Vice Provost of Community Research and Dean's Professor of Social Work and Preventative Medicine at the University of Southern California. Amaro was born in Cuba and moved to Los Angeles, California as a child. From a young age, she recognized that there was a demand for public health services in her area, particularly by immigrants and minorities. Amaro assisted in the development and implementation of numerous treatment and prevention models as well as the creation and establishment of several clinical interventions and programs dedicated to substance abuse, mental health and HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention that target women and minorities.

Ralph Fertig was an American social justice activist, lawyer, educator and author who in 1973 was described by the Washington Post as, the "conscience of Washington, D.C." When he died in 2020, The Los Angeles Times said he was "the conscience of L.A.".

Michàlle E. Mor Barak is an American social scientist in the areas of social work and business management, a researcher, academic and author. She is Dean's Endowed Professor of Social Work and Business at the University of Southern California. She is known for being the first to offer a theory-based measure for the construct of inclusion. She was among the first to identify and offer differential definitions for diversity and for inclusion. She coined the term Globally Inclusive Workplace, which she developed into a theory-based model with practical applications.
