The Southern California Marine Institute (SCMI) is a multi-campus research facility and non-profit oceanographic institution headquartered in Terminal Island, California.
In the late 1960s, marine scientists working at six campuses of the CSU system in the Los Angeles basin (Dominguez Hills, Fullerton, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Northridge, and Cal Poly Pomona) proposed the formation of an institute that would provide the advancement of marine programs. It was until 1971, when the university system decided to purchase the naval vessel R/V Nautilus for that specific purpose. In 1972, the creation of the Southern California Ocean Studies Consortium (SCOSC) was approved by the Trustees and the Presidents of the founding campuses and the operation of the R/V Nautilus floating marine laboratory began.
The University of California Los Angeles is in partnership with the Institute, thereby increasing marine research in Los Angeles, and providing educational opportunities for its students. [3]

SCMI operates a fleet of two research vessels, the 76-foot R/V Yellowfin and the 64-foot R/V Sea Watch.

The NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship has existed since the 2001 season. Seven conferences have teams competing in women's water polo: the Big West Conference, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), the single-sport Golden Coast Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). Some teams compete at Division III either as members of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference or independently. Teams qualify by either winning their respective conference tournament or receiving one of the few at large bids available. Unlike most NCAA sports, only one National Collegiate championship is held each season with teams from Division I, Division II, and Division III competing together.
California State University, Fullerton is a public research university in Fullerton, California. With a total enrollment of more than 41,000, it has the largest student body of the California State University (CSU) system, and its graduate student body of more than 5,000 is one of the largest in the CSU and in all of California. As of fall 2016, the school had 2,083 faculty, of whom 782 were on the tenure track. The Desert Studies Center (DSC) is a field station of the California State University located in Zzyzx, California, United States in the Mojave Desert. The purpose of the Center is to provide opportunities to conduct research, receive instruction and experience the Mojave Desert environment. It is the only academic unit within the California State University system to be associated with a Pritzker Prize laureate.
The Classroom, Laboratory & Administration Building, commonly known simply as the CLA Building, was an administrative building on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Designed by Albuquerque, New Mexico–based architect Antoine Predock in the Futurist style and completed in 1993, it has come to be the defining image of the university. The Administration portion of the building was demolished in August 2022 after a discovery of a fault line under the building.
The Auxiliary Organizations Association (AOA) is a supraorganization consisting of member organizations which are auxiliaries to the 23 campuses in the California State University system. There are over 90 member organizations including foundations, students' unions, student governments, and other corporations.
The Southern California World Water Forum—SoCal WWF promotes regional water-use efficiency and conservation in addition to sustainable potable water and sanitation projects for developing world communities. The Forum is an educational and small grants program designed to provide information, and to reward innovative projects and proposals from colleges and universities in Southern California.

Led by Joe Harper in his 14th and final season as head coach, Cal Poly compiled an overall record of 4–5 with a mark of 0–2 in conference play, placing last out of three teams in the CCAA. The Mustangs played home games at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California.
The 1980 Cal State Northridge Matadors football team represented California State University, Northridge as a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the 1980 NCAA Division II football season. Led by second-year head coach Tom Keele, Cal State Northridge compiled an overall record of 5–6 with a mark of 1–1 in conference play, placing second in the CCAA. The team was outscored by its opponents 263 to 188 for the season. The Matadors played home games at North Campus Stadium in Northridge, California.
The 1975 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos football team represented California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) member during the 1975 NCAA Division II football season. Led by second-year head coach Andy Vinci, Cal Poly Pomona compiled an overall record of 6–4–1 with a mark of 2–2 in conference play, placing third in the CCAA. The team outscored its opponents 256 to 199 for the season. The Broncos played home games at Kellogg Field in Pomona, California.
The 1982 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo as a member of the Western Football Conference (WFC) during the 1982 NCAA Division II football season. Led by first-year head coach Jim Sanderson, Cal Poly compiled an overall record of 6–5 with a mark of 4–0 in conference play, winning the WFC title. The Mustangs played home games at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California.
