Merle Norman Stadium is a beach volleyball facility located in Los Angeles, California, United States. [1] The on-campus USC facility, built in 2013, serves as the home of the USC Trojans women's beach volleyball. [1] The facility has three sand courts where USC plays its home matches and holds practices. [2] [3]

History

Ground was broken to construct the venue in July 2012 from donations of several USC alumni, including Jack and Helen Nethercutt. [4] The stadium opened on March 7, 2013, and was named after Merle Norman. [1]

The Trojans went undefeated at the stadium in 2014, 2015, and 2017. [5] As of July 2020, the Trojans are 34–4 at the stadium. [1] As of 2023, the Trojans have won 5 NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championships since the NCAA program's foundation in 2016.

Events

The women's beach volleyball team played their first dual match in the stadium on March 10, 2013, versus Loyola Marymount. [6]

The 2016 Pac-12 Conference beach volleyball championships were held at the stadium, which the USC Trojans won. [7]

Felix Field and Loker Stadium is an outdoor track and field facility located on the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The facility, rebuilt in 2001, serves as the outdoor home of the USC Trojans men's and women's track and field teams. The stadium is named for Katherine B. Loker and has a seating capacity of 3,000. The field located at the center of the stadium was previously known as Cromwell Field, originally named after Dean Cromwell, USC’s track and field coach from 1909 to 1948. The University renamed the field in 2023 to honor USC alumnae and US Olympian Allyson Felix. The entrance to the facility is called "Louis Zamperini Plaza" and includes tributes to USC's NCAA and Olympic champions.

Kelly Marie Cheng is an American beach volleyball player. She and her partner Sara Hughes won the bronze medal at the 2013 U19 World Championships, the silver medal at the 2014 U21 World Championships, the gold medal at the 2023 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017.

The 2023 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship was an intercollegiate tournament to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women's beach volleyball national champion for the 2022–23 season. The seventh edition of the tournament was held from May 3 to 7, 2023, at Gulf Place Public Beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The 2023 championship featured a single-elimination-only bracket for the first time, along with an expanded 17-team field. Nine of the participating schools automatically qualified by winning their respective conference tournaments, while the other eight were given at-large bids by the NCAA Women's Beach Volleyball Committee. The tournament was broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU.
