Udi is a Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in the town of Udi on the A232 highway. The current Local government chairman is Hon Ifeanyi Agu. [1]

It has an area of 897 km2 and a population of 370,002 at the 2015 census.

The postal code of the area is 401. [2]

It was the subject of the 1949 documentary film Daybreak in Udi .

The Waawa clan of Northern Igboland, also referred to as Ndi Waawa, Wawa People, are a unique sub-group of the Igbo people in Enugu and Ebonyi State, Nigeria, consisting of several communities, who all speak a unique dialect of Igbo called Waawa. The most notable among these are the Agbaja and Ngwo which consist of peoples between the wooded lands of Awka to the rocky valleys of Enugu. The Agbaja are made up of communities in present-day Ngwo clan, Udi, Ezeagu, Umulokpa, Igbo-Etiti, Oji River, greater Awgu, Odume, Ndiagbor, Nenwe, Mpu, Okpanku and Enugu East Local Government Areas. Other notable parts of the Waawa clan include Nkanu, Nsukka, Abia, Nike, Agbani, Owo, and other communities in Enugu State. The Waawa are most notably associated with Chief Onyeama's people from Eke, who was the paramount ruler of Agbaja in the early 20th century.

Philip Nnaemeka-Agu was a Nigerian jurist who was a justice at the Federal Court of Appeals. He was Commissioner of Justice, East Central State (1970-1972) and justice at the Supreme Court of Nigeria from 1987 to 1993.

Enugu West Senatorial District in Enugu State covers five local governments of Aniniri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji River and Udi. Agwu is the collation centre for Enugu West Senatorial District. Senator Osita Ngwu, an Engineer and an accomplished Industrialist is currently representing the people of Enugu West in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023, to elect the Governor of Enugu State, concurrent with elections to the Enugu State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
