The Umm al-Fahm bus bombing was a suicide bombing on 20 March 2002 on an Egged bus which was passing through Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel carrying civilian and military passengers, killing 7 passengers and injuring 27. The Palestinian Islamist militant organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility. [1]

The attack

On Wednesday 20 March 2002 at 7:05 am, powerful explosives were detonated on Egged bus no. 823 while it was passing through Umm al-Fahm on its way from Tel Aviv to Nazareth on Highway 65. Seven passengers—four soldiers and three civilians—and the bomber were killed in the explosion, and 27 passengers were injured.

The perpetrators

The Palestinian Islamist militant organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that the suicide bomber was 24-year-old Palestinian Rifat Abu-Ediak, from Jenin.
