The Karnei Shomron Mall suicide bombing was a Palestinian suicide bombing which occurred on February 16, 2002 in the Israeli settlement of Karnei Shomron. Three teenagers were killed in the attack.

The attack

On Saturday night, 16 February 2002, a Palestinian suicide bomber, who was wearing a 25-pound nail-studded explosive device strapped to his body, approached the popular crowded open mall in the Karnei Shomron settlement located in the West Bank.[ citation needed ] It was the first suicide bombing at a West Bank settlement. [2]

The militant detonated the bomb at the entrance to a pizza parlor at about 7:45 p.m. [3] The blast killed three teenagers (a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old boy)[ citation needed ] and injured 27 people, [2] six of them seriously.[ citation needed ] Two of the teenagers were killed instantly, [3] while a third died of her wounds on February 27.[ citation needed ]

The perpetrators

Officials from the Palestinian militant organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack and stated that the bomber was Sadek Abdel Hafeth, an 18-year-old Palestinian from the nearby town of Qalqilya. [4]

The Netanya Market bombing was a suicide bombing which occurred on 19 May 2002 at the entrance to the main fruit and vegetable open-air market in Netanya, Israel. The site of the attack was chosen in order to cause maximum number of casualties. Three people were killed in the attack, and 56–59 were injured.

The Geha Interchange bus stop bombing was a suicide bombing which occurred on December 25, 2003 on a bus stop at the Geha Interchange on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, Israel. Four people died in the attack and sixteen were injured. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Carmel Market bombing was a suicide bombing which occurred on 1 November 2004 at the Carmel Market located at the heart of Tel Aviv's business district. Three civilians were killed in the attack and over 50 people were injured.

Husam Badran is the former leader of Hamas’s military wing in the northern West Bank. He was the orchestrator of several suicide bombings during the Second Intifada with the highest number of fatalities including the 2001 bombing which resulted in the Dolphinarium discotheque massacre in Tel Aviv which killed 21 people. Currently Badran serves as the international spokesperson for Hamas using Twitter, Facebook, and news media to encourage Hamas militants to commit acts of political violence against Israelis and the Israeli government. He lives in Doha, Qatar.

Attacks occurred at various locations, including shopping centers, public buses, transit stations, cafes, nightclubs, and restaurants, with only a few targeting military objectives. Between 1994 and 2005, suicide bombings killed 735 Israelis and wounded 4,554.
