Alternative Airplay is a music chart in the United States that has appeared in Billboard magazine since September 10, 1988. It ranks the 40 most-played songs on alternative and modern rock radio stations. Introduced as Modern Rock Tracks, the chart served as a companion to the Mainstream Rock chart, and its creation was prompted by the explosion of alternative music on American radio in the late 1980s. During the first several years of the chart, it regularly featured music that did not receive commercial radio airplay anywhere but on a few modern rock and college rock radio stations. This included many electronic and post-punk artists. Gradually, as alternative rock became more mainstream, alternative and mainstream rock radio stations began playing many of the same songs. By the late 2000s, the genres became more fully differentiated with only limited crossover. The Alternative Airplay chart features more indie rock, indie pop, and synth-pop artists while the Mainstream Rock chart leans towards more guitar-tinged alternative rock, hard rock, and heavy metal.

"Carry On" is a song by American indie pop band fun. It was released on 23 October 2012 as the third single off their second album, Some Nights. The song was written by the band members, Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost, Jack Antonoff, alongside the album's producer, Jeff Bhasker. It is also featured in the HGTV 2013 #LoveHome commercial and in the pilot episode of FX series Legit. "Pompeii" is a song by British band Bastille. It is the fourth single from their debut studio album Bad Blood and was released on 11 January 2013. The song's title and lyrics refer to the Roman town of the same name that was destroyed and buried in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
"Riptide" is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy. It was first released as a track on his debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing (2013), serving as its second single, and is also featured on his debut studio album Dream Your Life Away (2014). The song was written by Joy, who also produced it with drummer Edwin White. The upbeat indie folk song has been lyrically described as a "coming of age love story" and is known for its metaphors and pop culture references.
"Unbelievers" is a song by American indie pop band Vampire Weekend. Written by the band's lead singer Ezra Koenig and multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij, and produced by Ariel Rechtshaid and Batmanglij, the song was released as the third single from their third studio album Modern Vampires of the City in August 2013. The band initially premiered "Unbelievers" in a live performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 31, 2012. They also performed the song live on an episode of Saturday Night Live prior to it being released as a single.

Adult Alternative Airplay is a record chart currently published by Billboard that ranks the most popular songs on adult album alternative radio stations. The 40-position chart is formulated based on each song's weekly radio spins, as measured by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. The earliest incarnation of the chart was first published on January 20, 1996, as a feature in Billboard sister publication Airplay Monitor. In 2006, Airplay Monitor ceased publication after Billboard parent company VNU Media's acquisition of rival radio trade magazine Radio & Records, which then subsequently incorporated Airplay Monitor's Nielsen-based Triple A chart.
"Hero" is a song by American indie rock band Family of the Year featured on their second studio album Loma Vista. It was released as the album's second single in 2012 through Nettwerk. The song was written by Joe Keefe, and it was produced by American production team Wax Ltd and Family of the Year. It first appeared on the band's 2010 EP Through The Trees in a shorter version. The song was written by band members Zac Barnett, Dave Rublin, Matt Sanchez, and James Adam Shelley, along with producers Aaron Accetta and Shep Goodman. "Believer" first appeared on their 2013 American Authors EP and was released as the band's debut single on March 19, 2013; it was later included on their debut studio album, Oh, What a Life (2014).

It was released physically and digitally in the United States on February 13, 2015, and on vinyl on March 3, 2015, through RCA Records. The album was mastered by Stephen Marcussen at Marcussen Mastering, which is located in Hollywood, California. The album was recorded at various studios throughout the United States, and was mixed at Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village.

"Good Girls" is a song written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Elle King for the soundtrack of the 2016 supernatural comedy film Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. The song was co-written and produced by Dave Bassett. It was released digitally on June 3, 2016 through RCA Records as the soundtrack's lead single and impacted American Triple A radio on June 13, 2016.
