The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is home to the School of Public Policy as well as nine academic departments offering 13 undergraduate majors, 11 areas of Master's and doctoral study, and a number of graduate certificate programs. The college bridges science and liberal arts, encouraging students to pursue cross-disciplinary studies, take classes outside their chosen major, and participate in research projects with faculty mentors.

Advising Services

Academic advising, career counseling, and internship opportunities for SBS students are provided by the SBS Pathways Center [4] located in Thompson Hall.

SBS RISE

SBS RISE [5] (Remedying Inequity through Student Engagement) is an SBS Pathways community providing specialized resources for SBS students who identify as first-generation, Black, Indigenous, or other Persons of Color (BIPOC), and/or come from low-income backgrounds.

The University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Engineering is one of the schools and colleges at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. It was established on September 1, 1947 as the School of Engineering and now considered as the best public engineering school in New England, enrolling 2250 undergraduate students and 610 graduate students including 300 M.S. students and 310 Ph.D. students for the 2018–2019 school year. The College of Engineering at UMass Amherst has eight buildings, including the Elab II, research facilities, computer labs, and graduate offices. It has more than 16,000 living alumni around the world.

The Robert J. Manning School of Business is the business school at the University of Massachusetts Lowell located in Lowell, Massachusetts. The Manning School is accredited by AACSB International (AACSB).

Nilanjana Dasgupta is a social psychologist whose work focuses on the effects of social contexts on implicit stereotypes - particularly on factors that insulate women in STEM fields from harmful stereotypes which suggest that females perform poorly in such areas. Dasgupta is a professor of Psychology and is the Director of the Institute of Diversity Sciences and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

The University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Policy is a school at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Formerly known and operated as the Center for Public Policy & Administration, the center was elevated to a school in 2016 to reflect its expanding mission. It offers an undergraduate major in Public Policy and professional master's degrees in Public Affairs and Public Policy & Administration. In October 2019, the school announced a five-year expansion plan that included the creation of an undergraduate public policy major, which launched in the fall of 2022, as well as expansion of the faculty through tenure lines for faculty appointments solely in the School of Public Policy.

The William J. and John F.Kennedy College of Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is so named for the Kennedy family and their contributions to the campus. John F. Kennedy is an alumnus of the Lowell Technological Institute Class of 1970. The Lowell Technological Institute merged with the Lowell State College to become the University of Lowell in 1972. It joined the UMass system in 1991 to become Umass Lowell.

Whitney Battle-Baptiste is an American historical archaeologist of African and Cherokee descent. She is an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Center at the University. Battle-Baptiste's research focuses on "how the intersection of race, gender, class, and sexuality look through an archaeological lens".

Rebecca Hasson is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan. She researches the causes and consequences of pediatric obesity, how the environment impacts obesity related metabolic risk factors to inform health policies.

David Hsu is a planner, educator, and engineer. Currently, Hsu is Associate Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While Hsu's research interests are vast and varied, spanning from design and planning to governance, policy, and infrastructure, his current work primarily focuses on helping policymakers shape environmental policy and policy implementation.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sarah Pallas</span> American neuroscientist

Sarah L. Pallas is an American neuroscientist and a Professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) known for her cross-modal plasticity work and map compression studies in the visual and auditory cortical pathways.
