Muhammad Usamah Zaid bin Yasin (born 19 December 1983) is a Malaysian animator. He is known for his work at Les' Copaque Production's animated series, Upin & Ipin and animated film, Geng: The Adventure Begins . He is also served as the CEO of WAU Animation, an animation studio he founded in 2013 and also become creator and director of Ejen Ali .

Career

20052013: Early career

After graduated at the Multimedia University (MMU), Usamah joined Les' Copaque Production together with his close friends, Nizam Razak and Anas Abdul Aziz, then came up with animation series Upin & Ipin where he served as an assistant director, later become its director starting Season 4, replacing Nizam who left Les' Copaque in 2009 with Anas, Safwan Karim and Kee Yong Pin to established Animonsta Studios.

Besides become assistant director for the series, Usamah also worked as animation director and 3D character rigging for Geng: The Adventure Begins . [1]

2013present: Breakthrough with Ejen Ali

After spent 7 years at Les' Copaque, Usamah left the company and established his own animation company, WAU Animation where he served as CEO. WAU Animation produces Ejen Ali that aired on TV3 since 8 April 2016. [2] For the animated series, he served as director, executive producer, screenplay and voice actor.

He directed and screenplay his first ever film based on Ejen Ali animated series, Ejen Ali: The Movie . [3] [4] The film received positive reviews and collected RM30.05 million box office. This led him received nomination from Malaysia Film Festival and Asian Academy Creative Awards. [5]

Geng: The Adventure Begins is a 2009 Malaysian Malay-language 3D computer animated film. The film is produced by Les' Copaque and released in Malaysian cinemas beginning 12 February 2009. Geng was launched in a ceremony held on 11 September 2007 together with short animated series Upin & Ipin that have connections with the film. Planning for the film began in late-2005 as Les Copaque commenced operations. It received financial support from ICT-related agencies such as Multimedia Development Corporation and MIMOS.

Upin & Ipin is a Malaysian animated series produced by Les' Copaque Production. The series features the life and adventures of the eponymous bald twin brothers in a fictional Malaysia. Originally a side project for the blockbuster animated film Geng: The Adventure Begins, Upin & Ipin was introduced on TV9 in Malaysia on 13 September 2007 as a six episode Ramadan/Hari Raya Aidilfitri special, to teach children the significance of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and Shawwal. A second season, also centered on Ramadan, aired in 2008. Its third season, Upin Ipin and Friends, debuted internationally on Disney Channel Asia the following year, and began to focus more on the everyday lives of The Twins and their friends. As of 2023, Upin & Ipin is the longest-running Malaysian animated series, currently in its 16th year of production, and is currently in its 17th season.

<i>BoBoiBoy</i> Malaysian animated television series

BoBoiBoy is a Malaysian animated series and franchise produced by Animonsta Studios. In this story, a young boy gains superpowers based on the elements, and has the ability to separate into different personas. With his friends, Yaya, Ying, Gopal and Fang, they form a team and fight to protect the Earth from alien threats who aim to conquer the Earth.

Animation in Malaysia has origins in the puppetry style of wayang kulit, wherein the characters are controlled by the puppeteer, or Tok Dalang. Chinese shadow play inspired German filmmaker Lotte Reiniger to create the animated The Adventures of Prince Achmed in 1926 that was based on one of the stories in the 1001 Nights stories. Many of the world's animators have credited Prince Achmed's recognisable style for generating their initial interest in animation as well as in their works.

Animonsta Studios Sdn. Bhd. is a Malaysian animation company that produces creative content for the Malaysian and international market. The company was founded on 15 September 2009 by four former Les' Copaque Production staffs – Mohd Nizam Abd Razak, Muhammad Anas Abdul Aziz, Mohd Safwan Abd Karim and Kee Yong Pin.

Laksamana Upin & Ipin is a cancelled and unfinished second animated film from the series of Upin & Ipin, a Malaysian 3D animated series. It was being produced by Les' Copaque Production. This film was cancelled due to unexpected financial and schedule situation which occurred in 2011. Eventually, it was repurposed as a regular episode.

BoBoiBoy: The Movie is a 2016 Malaysian Malay-language computer-animated superhero comedy film directed by Nizam Razak, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Anas Abdul Aziz. It is Animonsta Studios' first feature film, based on their animated TV series BoBoiBoy. The film follows BoBoiBoy and his friends on an adventure on a mysterious island to find Ochobot, who is kidnapped by a group of alien power sphere hunters the tengkotak so that they could locate an ancient Power Sphere that predates Ochobot.

Ejen Ali is a Malaysian animation series produced by WAU Animation. The titular character is a young 12-year-old boy named Ali who accidentally becomes a special agent after using the Infinity Retinal Intelligent System (IRIS), a device prototype created by the Meta Advance Tactical Agency (MATA). IRIS is controlled by neuro-signals, enabling the wearer to perform actions programmed by the computer. After the incident, Ali and his uncle, Bakar, cooperated in MATA missions.

Mechamato Movie is a 2022 Malaysian Malay-language computer-animated action film and a prequel to the animated series Mechamato: The Animated Series.
