Valeriy Suntsov (Russian : Валерий Сунцов; born 10 July 1955) is a Russian former racewalking athlete who competed in the 50 kilometres race walk for the Soviet Union. He set his lifetime best of 3:42:37 hours for the event in 1985 in Saint Petersburg (then Leningrad). [1]
He represented his country at the European Athletics Championships on two occasions, winning a bronze medal at the 1986 edition. [2] [3] He competed at the 1987 World Championships in Athletics but was disqualified for lifting. [4] He was a key member of the Soviet team at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup, sharing in the team silver medals in 1981 and 1985 before taking gold at the 1987 IAAF World Race Walking Cup with a team including Vyacheslav Ivanenko, Andrey Perlov and Aleksandr Potashov. [5]
Suntsov was ranked third among Europeans in the 1982 season, behind East German Ronald Weigel and fellow Soviet Viktor Dorovskikh. [6] He was a one-time national champion taking the 50 km walk at the 1986 Soviet Athletics Championships. [7]

The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships is a racewalking event organised by World Athletics. It has been held since 1961, and generally on a biennial basis. The first women's edition of the event happened in 1979. It was formerly known as the Lugano Cup after the city that hosted the first event, then became the IAAF World Race Walking Cup until 2016 and then IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships until 2018. In 2004, a junior division was added for athletes between 16 and 20. Since 2008 it has been a constituent meeting of the World Athletics Challenge – Race Walking.
Valeriy Viktorovich Borchin is a race walker from Russia who won the 2008 Olympic gold medal and was World champion over the 20 km distance. His World Championship was retroactively stripped in 2015 due to doping.
Pavol Szikora was a Slovak race walker. He was born in Lučenec and represented the club Dukla Banská Bystrica.
Sergey Aleksandrovich Yung is a Russian former race walker who competed for the Soviet Union. He specialised in the 50 kilometres race walk.
Enrique Vera Ibáñez is a Mexican and Swedish former race walking athlete.
Andrey Viktorovich Ruzavin is a Russian racewalking athlete who competes over the 20 kilometres race walk distance. He has a personal best of 1:17:47 hours for the distance, which ranks him in the top twenty of all time. Ruzavin was the silver medallist in the 20 km walk at the 2009 Summer Universiade and a bronze medallist at the 2014 IAAF World Race Walking Cup.
Yevgeniy Lyungin is a former Soviet racewalker who competed in the 50 kilometres race walk distance. He became his country's first winner of the event at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup in 1975.
Siv Gustavsson[nb] is a Swedish former racewalking athlete. She was the gold medallist at the 1981 IAAF World Race Walking Cup, making her the second ever female world champion in the sport.
Alberto Cruz is a Mexican former racewalker. He was a world junior champion and took a bronze medal at the 1993 IAAF World Race Walking Cup. Amongst his senior honours are gold medals from the Central American and Caribbean and Ibero-American Championships.
Stanislav Vezhel is a Belarusian former racewalker who competed in the 50 kilometres race walk for the Soviet Union.
Anatoliy Gorshkov is a Ukrainian former racewalking athlete who competed mainly in the 20 kilometres race walk event. His best result was a bronze medal at the 1987 IAAF World Race Walking Cup, where he achieved his lifetime best of 1:20:04 hours for the 20 km walk.
Aleksandra Grigoryeva is a Russian former racewalking athlete. She was the gold medallist at the 1985 Summer Universiade, becoming the inaugural women's walk champion at the event. She represented the Soviet Union at the 1986 European Athletics Championships.
Åke Wilhelm Söderlund was a Swedish racewalking athlete. He competed at the 1952, 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics with the best result of 18th place in the 20 km event in 1964.
Raymond Christopher Middleton was a British racewalker. He represented Great Britain at the 1964 Summer Olympics in the 50 kilometres race walk. He was also a six-time participant at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup between 1961 and 1973. He took silver medals at the 1963 IAAF World Race Walking Cup and 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
Ann Jansson is a Swedish former racewalking athlete.
Natalya Sorokivskaya is a Kazakhstani female former long-distance runner who competed for the Soviet Union and later Kazakhstan. She competed in track, road and cross country running disciplines. She holds the Kazakhstani national records from 3000 metres to the 10K run and also the half marathon record.
Igor Lotaryov is a Russian former Soviet male middle-distance runner who competed mainly in the 1500 metres. He set his lifetime best of 3:34.49 minutes for the event in Brussels in 1985.
Aleksandr Vasilyev is a Belarusian former track and field hurdler who competed in the 400 metres hurdles for the Soviet Union. He set his lifetime best of 47.92 seconds for the event in Moscow in 1985. This remains the Belarusian national record.
Vitaliy Popovich was a Ukrainian male former racewalking athlete who competed in the 50 kilometres race walk. He competed in the men's 50 kilometres walk at the 1988 Summer Olympics, representing the Soviet Union, and in the same event at the 1996 Summer Olympics, representing Ukraine. He was a three-time participant at the World Championships in Athletics, with a best of fourth at the 1991 event. He also competed at five straight editions of the IAAF World Race Walking Cup from 1989 to 1997. He set a personal best of 3:43:57 hours for the distance in 1989.
Dzmitry Mikhailavich Dziubin is a Belarusian male racewalking athlete. He was the bronze medallist in the 50 kilometres race walk at the 2018 European Athletics Championships and won silver medals in that event at the European Race Walking Cup and Military World Games in 2019. He has represented Belarus twice at the World Athletics Championships and is a five-time participant at the World Race Walking Team Championships.
