Vallata (Irpino: Vaddàta) is a town and comune in the province of Avellino, Campania, Italy.
The Irpinian dialect, or Irpino, is the dialect spoken in almost all of the comuni in the Province of Avellino in the Italian region of Campania. It is a variant of the Neapolitan language, but does differ from pure Neapolitan in certain phrases, pronunciation and the use of definite articles. The dialect is heavily influenced by its geographical neighbours. For example, in the northern area of Avellino, there are some undertones of the accent from Benevento. The dialect spoken in Ariano Irpino or the other towns close to the border with Apulia also has a distinct Pugliese tone.
The comune is a basic administrative division in Italy, roughly equivalent to a township or municipality.
The Province of Avellino is a province in the Campania region of Southern Italy. The area is characterized by numerous small towns and villages scattered across the province; only two towns have a population over 20,000: its capital city Avellino and Ariano Irpino.
Located in the Apennines between the Ufita Valley and Daunian Mountains, the town is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia. Its territory borders the municipalities of Bisaccia, Carife, Guardia Lombardi, Scampitella, and Trevico.
The Ufita is a river of Campania, in southern Italy. The source is in the Baronia traditional sub-region of Irpinia, in the province of Avellino, after which the river flows generally north-westwards, entering the province of Benevento before entering the Calore Irpino in the territory of Sant'Arcangelo Trimonte.
Daunian Mountains are a mountain range in southern Italy, constituting the eastern appendix of the Campanian Apennines. They occupy the western fringe of Capitanata and the border of Apulia with Molise and Campania, taking their name from an ancient Italic tribe, the Dauni.
The Italian Catholic Diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Benevento. In 1986 the Diocese of Ariano was united with the Diocese of Lacedonia to form the current diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia.
