Vikram K. Kumar is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in Telugu and Tamil cinema. [2] In 1998, he directed his breakthrough non-feature film, Silent Scream, for which he won the National Film Award For Best Instructional Film. [3] He made his directorial debut in Telugu cinema industry with Ishtam in 2001, and then directed the Tamil movie, Yavarum Nalam ( 13B in Hindi). [4]

In 2014, he scripted and directed Manam which was screened at the 45th International Film Festival of India in the Homage to Akkineni Nageswara Rao section on 29 November 2014. The film garnered the Filmfare Award for Best Film - Telugu. [5] He then directed the box-office hits such as the science-fiction 24 (2016), which won two awards at the 64th National Film Awards, [6] and the comedy-thriller Gang Leader (2019). [7]

Early career

Kumar graduated from Madras Christian College in Chennai. In April 1997 he joined director Priyadarshan, working on the Malayalam film Chandralekha as assistant director. He also worked under Priyadarshan in Doli Saja Ke Rakhna and Hera Pheri . [7]

Yavarum Nalam is a 2009 Indian horror film written and directed by Vikram Kumar. The film stars R. Madhavan and Neetu Chandra. Produced by Suresh Balaje and George Pius, the film was simultaneously filmed and released in Hindi as 13B: Fear Has a New Address with a slightly different cast. It was also later dubbed into Telugu as 13-Padamoodu, featuring a few scenes reshot with Ravi Babu. The film's soundtrack was composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, while Tubby-Parik provided the background score. Released on 6 March 2009, the film received mixed reviews but was commercially successful. Rediff placed the film in its list of top Tamil films of 2009. A web series with a similar theme called Dhootha written and directed by Vikram Kumar was released in 2023, some have speculated that Yavarum Nalam and Dhootha exist in the same universe, while others have said that Dhootha is a standalone sequel to Yavarum Nalam.

Manam (transl. Us) is a 2014 Indian Telugu-language fantasy drama film written and directed by Vikram Kumar, and produced by the Akkineni Family under the Annapurna Studios banner. The film stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Shriya Saran. The film is set in various time periods, over the course of a hundred years up until 2013, and deals with the concepts of rebirth and eternal love. The plot features a wealthy businessman, Nageswara Rao (Nagarjuna), attempting to bring a young couple together resembling his deceased parents and the elderly Chaitanya's attempts to bring the businessman and a doctor together. They resemble Chaitanya's deceased parents, who died because of a mistake committed by him in his childhood.

Akhil: The Power of Jua is a 2015 Indian Telugu-language action fantasy film directed by V. V. Vinayak and produced by Nithin and M. Sudhakar Reddy under Sresht Movies banner. The film stars Akhil Akkineni and Sayyeshaa in their debut. The film features score composed by Mani Sharma with soundtrack by Anup Rubens and S. Thaman. Vinayak wrote the screenplay from the story given by Veligonda Srinivas along with dialogue by Kona Venkat. Releasing on 11 November 2015 amidst huge hype and expectations, the film was a commercial failure.
