Volleyball at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's qualification

The qualification for the 2020 women's Olympic volleyball tournament allocated twelve teams quota spots: the host, the winners of each of six Intercontinental Qualifying Tournaments, and five continental Olympic qualification tournament champions. [1] Teams already qualified for the event were not eligible to play in the following qualification tournaments. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . [2]

The FIVB Senior World Rankings is a ranking system for men's and women's national teams in volleyball. The teams of the member nations of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), volleyball's world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A points system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of all FIVB-recognised full international matches. The rankings are used in international competitions to define the seeded teams and arrange them in pools. Specific procedures for seeding and pooling are established by the FIVB in each competition's formula, but the method usually employed is the serpentine system.

The 2018 FIVB Women's World Championship was the eighteenth edition of the event, contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The volleyball tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are held from 27 July to 11 August 2024. 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams participate in the tournament. Indoor volleyball competitions occur at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles with the beach volleyball tournament staged at the Eiffel Tower Stadium in Champ de Mars. This is the first time in the history of the Olympic volleyball competition, each team participating in the Games will be entitled to include one non-competing (AP) athlete to replace an athlete for medical reasons. As such, team rosters will increase from 12 to 13 athletes.

The men's qualification for the Olympic beach volleyball tournament will occur between January 2023 and June 2024. The competition will comprise a total of 24 men's beach volleyball pairs coming from different NOCs, similar to those in the previous editions; each NOC can enter a maximum of two pairs in the men's tournament. As the host nation, France reserves the direct spot for the men's beach volleyball pair.
