Vumile Gladman Lwana is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since September 2014. He was formerly the Mayor of Makana Local Municipality from 2000 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2011.
Lwana was born and raised in Grahamstown in the former Cape Province and matriculated at Nathaniel Nyaluza Senior Secondary School in the 1980s. [1] He formerly worked in the non-governmental sphere through developmental organisation Masifunde,which he joined as a programmes coordinator in 1989 and led as director from 1994. [1] From 1999 to 2000 he chaired the Eastern Cape NGO Coalition. [1]
In the local elections of December 2000,Lwana was elected to represent the ANC as a councillor in the newly formed Makana Local Municipality. After the election,he was elected as the municipality's inaugural executive mayor. [1] [2] [3] Following a full term in the mayoral office,he was succeeded by Pumelelo Kate after the 2006 local elections. [1]
Lwana subsequently served as an ANC councillor in the Cacadu District Municipality. [4] However,in June 2009,Kate resigned as Makana Mayor at the ANC's request,and Lwana returned to the mayoral office;in a secret ballot held on 23 June,he received the support of 12 of the 24 councillors. He narrowly beat the opposition candidate,the Democratic Alliance's Michael Whisson,who received 11 votes,including at least seven from the ANC itself. [4] His second term as mayor lasted until the 2011 local elections,after which he was succeeded by Zamuxolo Peter.
In the 2014 general election,Lwana stood for election as a Member of the Provincial Legislature,but he was ranked 46th on the ANC's provincial party list for the Eastern Cape and therefore did not initially secure a seat. [5] He was sworn in to the provincial legislature on 9 September 2014,filling a casual vacancy arising from the resignation of Phila Nkayi. [6] He was elected to his first full term in the legislature in the 2019 general election,ranked 36th on the ANC's party list. [5]
Municipal elections were held in South Africa on 1 March 2006,to elect members to the local governing councils in the municipalities of South Africa. The municipalities form the local government of South Africa and are subdivisions of the provinces,thus making them responsible for local service delivery,such as electricity,water and fire services.
Qubudile Richard Dyantyi has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since 2019. Before that,he was a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and served as the Western Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Housing from 2005 to 2008. Makana Local Municipality is the local municipality which governs the town of Makhanda/Grahamstown and surrounding areas in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It forms part of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality. The municipality is named after a Xhosa prophet and leader,Makana.
Bennet Mzwenqaba Bhanga,known as Nqaba Bhanga,is a South African politician. Ntombi Lentheng Mekgwe is a South African politician who has been Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2014. Gerald Mlungisi Mvoko is a South African businessman and politician serving as the Eastern Cape MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Environmental Affairs since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since February 2018. Mvoko is the deputy provincial chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC). He held two posts in the province's Executive Council before being appointed to his current position.
Zamuxolo Joseph Peter was a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly from May 2019 until his death in July 2020. He was the mayor of the Makana Local Municipality from 2011 until 2015. Peter was a member of the African National Congress.
Nomakhosazana Meth is a South African politician who has been the Eastern Cape MEC for Health since March 2021 and a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. She was the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform from May 2019 to March 2021. Meth is a member of the African National Congress. She was previously both the speaker and mayor of the OR Tambo District Municipality and the speaker of the Mbizana Local Municipality.
Virginia Alice Camealio-Benjamin is a South African politician who has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. She was a councillor of the Kouga Local Municipality before her election to provincial legislature. Camealio-Benjamin is a member of the African National Congress.
Reinette Liebenberg is a South African politician,who was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in the 2019 general election. She is one of eight Democratic Alliance representatives in the provincial legislature. Liebenberg was a councillor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality before she was elected to the provincial legislature.
Rosemary Nokuzola Capa,also known as Zoleka Capa,is a South African politician who has served as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture,Rural Development and Land Reform since August 2021. She was Deputy Minister of Small Business Development from May 2019 to August 2021. A member of the African National Congress,she has been a Member of the National Assembly since May 2014. From June 2014 to May 2019,she was the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development.

Dingaan Jacob Myolwa is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who is a Member of the National Assembly for the African National Congress (ANC). He was appointed to parliament in 2021. Myolwa had previously served as a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2013 to 2014 and before that,as mayor of the OR Tambo District Municipality.

Kgosientsho or Kgosientso "Sputla" Ramokgopa is a South African politician who was the Mayor of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016. He was also a Member of the Executive Council in the Gauteng provincial government in 2019 and currently works in the Presidency of South Africa.

Between 2006 and 2011,he was a local councillor in Msunduzi Local Municipality,where he was Speaker from 2006 to 2010 and Deputy Mayor for a brief period in 2011. He resigned from the council in June 2011 after prolonged protests calling for his removal. He is also known for his activities as a local ANC leader in the party's Moses Mabhida branch in Umgungundlovu,including as the branch's regional chairperson between 2012 and 2014.
