Mzoleli Mrara is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2009. He was formerly the Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the legislature from 2013 to 2018. He also serves as the Provincial Chairperson of the Eastern Cape branch of the South African Communist Party.
He was elected to an ANC seat in the provincial legislature in the 2009 general election, ranked 27th on the ANC's provincial party list. [1] Near the end of the legislative term, in August 2013, the ANC named him as Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the provincial legislature. He replaced Humphrey Maxegwana, who was removed in line with an ANC resolution that Chief Whips should be selected from among the members of the party's internal Provincial Executive Committee. [2]
In the 2014 general election, Mrara was ranked 11th on the ANC's party list and retained both his legislative seat [3] and his position in the Chief Whip's office. [4] In 2015, there was a minor nepotism scandal when the Daily Dispatch reported that he had hired the mother of his child as a researcher in his office. [5] [6]
In February 2018, the ANC announced that it had removed Mrara from the Chief Whip position, replacing him with Fundile Gade; Mrara remained an ordinary Member of the Provincial Legislature and succeeded Gade as chairperson of the legislature's Portfolio Committee on Education. [7] [8] He was re-elected to his seat in the 2019 general election, ranked 42nd on the ANC's list, [3] and was subsequently elected chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on the Office of the Premier. [9]
In addition to his legislative career, Mzala is a former Provincial Chairperson of the South African Democratic Teachers Union [8] and a current provincial leader of the South African Communist Party (SACP). He has been the Provincial Chairperson of the SACP's Eastern Cape branch since at least 2015, [10] and he was re-elected unopposed to that position in June 2022 alongside Provincial Secretary Xolile Nqatha and Deputy Provincial Chairperson Mpumelelo Saziwa. Mzara has at least one child. [5] His father, Thembile Ebby Mrara, died in Port Elizabeth in 2016. [12]
Godfrey Phumulo Masualle is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since May 2019. He was Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises from May 2019 to March 2023, and before that he was the sixth Premier of the Eastern Cape from May 2014 to May 2019.
Fundile David Gade is a South African educator and politician serving as the Eastern Cape MEC for Education since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress since May 2014. Gade had previously served as the chairperson of the legislature's Portfolio Committee on Education and as the chief whip of the ANC caucus.

Vusumuzi Cyril Xaba is a South African politician and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. He is currently serving as Co-Chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans. A member of the African National Congress, he previously served in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1994 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2019. He was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2014 to 2016.
Zola Mlenzana is a South African politician. A former member of the Congress of the People, he was elected as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Eastern Cape in 2009. In 2014 he resigned from COPE and rejoined the African National Congress. Mlenzana was elected to the National Assembly in 2019.
Sakhumzi Stoffels Somyo is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, he was elected to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2014. He was then appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for the Finance, Economic Development, Environment and Tourism portfolio. In 2018, he was fired as an MEC. Somyo was elected to Parliament in 2019. Soon after, he was elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Auditor General.
Phumeza Theodora Mpushe is a South African politician who has been an African National Congress Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since August 2020. She had previously been a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature.
Molapi Soviet Lekganyane is a South African politician from Limpopo province. A member of the African National Congress (ANC), he was Member of the Limpopo Executive Council for Local Government and Housing from 2009 to 2012 under Premier Cassel Mathale. He served two terms as Provincial Secretary of the ANC in Limpopo, from 2011 to 2013 under Mathale and from 2018 to 2022 under Stan Mathabatha. He was formerly the Provincial Secretary of the South African Communist Party in Limpopo from 2008 to 2011 and in 2022 he was elected to a five-year term on the ANC's National Executive Committee.
Richard Themba Mthembu is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since 2009. He was formerly KwaZulu-Natal's Member of the Executive Council for Agriculture and Rural Development from June 2016 to May 2019. He has also served as Provincial Secretary of the South African Communist Party in KwaZulu-Natal since 2002.
Fezeka Sister Loliwe was a South African politician and African National Congress member who served as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa between 2014 and her death in 2018. She was chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Labour at the time of her death. Loliwe was also a member of the South African Communist Party and served on the party's Central Committee.
Ntombizodwa Tamara Xhanti is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature for over a decade. She is a prominent member of the ANC's branch in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Bulelwa Tunyiswa is a South African politician who served as the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture from May 2018 to May 2019. Before that, she was the Deputy Speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2018. She lost her position on the Executive Council after the 2019 general election, when she failed to gain re-election to the provincial legislature. A member of the African National Congress (ANC), Tunyiswa has also been a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) since 2012.
Pumelele Ndamase is a South African politician and former public servant who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since March 2016. He was secretary of the provincial legislature from 2009 to 2014 and before that he represented the ANC as a councillor in the Eastern Cape's OR Tambo District Municipality.

He previously served in the legislature from May 2014 to February 2016. He also serves as the Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape and he was formerly the Provincial Chairperson of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu).
Mandla Makupula was a South African politician who served as the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) from November 2010 until his death in October 2018. He had represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 1999.
Comely Humphrey Maqocwa Maxegwana is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2014 until 2019, when he failed to gain re-election. Suka had served as a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 1994 until 2009. He is a member of the African National Congress.
Grant Trevor Snell is a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa between 2009 and 2014, representing the African National Congress. Prior to serving in parliament, Snell served in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature.
