The WAFU Zone A U-20 Championship is an association football tournament that is contested between competition contested by national teams of Zone A of the West African Football Union. [2] The current champions are Gambia. [3]

Eligible participants

2018 edition

Eight teams were drawn in two groups of four from WAFU Zone A members including hosts Liberia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and The Gambia. [4] Mauritania declined to participate in the tournament and Cape Verde later withdrew to be replaced by Ivory Coast. [5]

2008 WAFU U-20 Championship

The first WAFU Under-20 Championship took place in Nigeria. The tournament is sometimes referred to as the Ibori Cup and is contested by countries in the West Africa region.

The FIBA Africa Championship 2009 Qualification occurred on various dates between 4 August 2008 and 31 May 2009. It was used to determine which African national basketball teams would qualify for the FIBA Africa Championship 2009. Teams competed with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the Championship tournament.

The African Youth Championship 1995 was a soccer tournament held in Nigeria. It also served as qualification for the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship.

2018 WAFU/FOX U-20 Tournament

The 2018 WAFU/FOX U-20 Tournament was the first edition of the international U-20 men's football event for teams under the West African Football Union. The competition will be hosted by Liberia in April to May 2018 in two match venues. The organizers of the tournament, which is sponsored by FOX Sports, said it will run from April 24, to May 6, 2018 in Monrovia and will feature eight of the nine countries in WAFU Zone A who have confirmed their participation in the zonal youth championship.
