The CAF Awards is an awards evening held to honour the best African association football players. It is conferred by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Contents

History

The CAF Awards was first awarded in the year 2000. It is an award contested by the Confederation of African Football and awarded to the best African player in each category. The African Footballer of the Year award is the oldest CAF award, being awarded since 1992 that witnessed Abedi Pele winning the inaugural award.

Editions

The 2020 and 2021 CAF awards did not take place due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. [19]

On 24 October 2024, CAF announced that the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Marrakech, Morocco for the second year in a row. [20] [21] In order to show solidarity, a friendly match between African Legends took place. [22]

Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium (Arabic: المجمع الرياضي الأمير مولاي عبد الله) was a multi-purpose stadium in Rabat, Morocco. It was named after Prince Moulay Abdellah of Morocco, It was the home of AS FAR since their formation in 1983.

Sports in Morocco refers to the sports played in the Kingdom of Morocco. As of 2007, Moroccan society participated in many sports, including handball, football, golf, tennis, basketball, and athletics. Hicham El Guerrouj, a retired middle distance runner for Morocco, won two gold medals for Morocco at the Athletics at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

African Women Footballer of the Year, an annual award for Africa's best female football player. It is awarded by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in December each year. Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala has won the award a record six times. The award was given out for the first time in 2001.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2011 African U-23 Championship</span> International football competition

The 2011 African U-23 Championship was the first edition of the football tournament for players under 23 years. It was originally scheduled to be hosted by Egypt from 26 November to 10 December 2011. However, less than two months prior to the start of the tournament, Egyptian authorities decided against hosting the competition because of security concerns. <span class="mw-page-title-main">U-23 Africa Cup of Nations</span> African qualification tournament for the Summer Olympics

The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, known for sponsorship purposes as the TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, or simply U-23 AFCON or U-23 CAN, is the quadrennial African football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for its nations, consisting of players under 23 years of age, and was first held in 2011. It has been held every four years since its Inauguration. The top three nations qualify directly from every edition of this tournament for the football tournament of the Olympic Games.

The Morocco national under-17 football team is the national under-17 football team of Morocco and is controlled by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The team competes in the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, UNAF U-17 Tournament, Arab Cup U-17 and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which is held every two years.

The 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, known as the 2023 U20 AFCON or 2023 AFCON U20 for short and as the 2023 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship purposes, was the 17th edition of the biennial African international youth football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football. Egypt hosted the tournament, which took place from 19 February to 11 March 2023. The tournament involved 12 teams, Senegal won the tournament for the first time, defeating Gambia in the final and did not concede a single goal the entire tournament.
