WKEU-FM 88.9 is an FM radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Its city of license is The Rock, Georgia, United States. The station is owned by Georgia Public Radio, Inc. (no relation to Georgia Public Broadcasting's GPB Radio), and also features radio programming from ABC Radio. [1] Having an original airdate in 1999, it is the sister station of WKEU AM 1450, in nearby Griffin, Georgia. The broadcast callsign was previously on 97.5 in Fayetteville, Georgia, also nearby.
WKEU-FM is highly unusual in that the vast majority of noncommercial educational stations in the U.S. are either college radio, Christian radio, public radio, or one of a few indie radio stations. In contrast, this station does not appear to be supported by any such group, nor does it engage in any on-air underwriting, pledge drives, or any other fundraising activities, nor any self-promotion of its own programming or of the organization that operates it. It also has almost no talking between songs, and no radio DJs, instead seeming to be run by broadcast automation. Classic rock is also nearly unheard-of on a noncommercial station, instead being more likely on commercial radio, which Atlanta already has one of on full-power WNNX FM.
A non-commercial educational station is a radio station or TV station that does not accept on-air advertisements, as defined in the United States by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and was originally intended to offer educational programming as part, or whole, of its programming. NCE stations do not pay broadcast license fees for their non-profit uses of the radio spectrum. Stations which are almost always operated as NCE include public broadcasting, community radio, and college radio, as well as many religious broadcasting stations. Nearly all Non-Commercial radio stations derive their support from listener support, grants and endowments, such as the governmental entity Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) that distributes supporting funds provided by the congress to support Public Radio.

Weekend jazz music programming included Legends of Jazz by Ramsey Lewis, and Jazztrax by Art Good. Sports Conversations with Loran Smith and the Regionsbank SEC football report were carried. The station also partnered with the Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce to provide local event information with its "Community Happenings" and "Community Minute" announcements which aired up to 16 times daily. Many vignette programs such as America's Most Wanted, Car Show Minute, National Geographic Environment Minute, the Success Journal, and Wisdom Made in America, added variety to the lineup. Despite the popularity and variety of the talk programming line-up, the news-talk format on WAYX was cancelled at the end of May 2011, due to lack of listener and advertiser support, and the station began simulcasting WSIZ-FM, Fitzgerald-Douglas, Georgia, to provide a simulcast of that station's 24-7 classic rock format to the Waycross area. This too was not commercially successful, and in July 2016, the station began simulcasting WKBX-FM in Kingsland, Georgia.
