History
The original WKLA-FM
The original WKLA-FM is what is now WWMN, which began operations in May 1971 and spent much of its programming day simulcasting its AM sister station throughout the 1970s. Around 1980, the station further separated programming from the AM's Middle of the Road format by moving into Adult Contemporary, which has been the station's format since, although the station still simulcast the AM during certain dayparts until 2000.
Synergy Broadcast Media purchased WKLA-FM in 2012 from Lake Michigan Broadcasting. The deal did not close until June 19, 2013, at a price of $580,000 for WKLA-FM and sister stations WKLA and WKZC. Almost immediately, Synergy announced that it was seeking FCC approval to move the areas oldest operating FM station to Thompsonville, Michigan. (FCC File #BPH-20130801A0K).
The station changed its call sign to the current WWMN on August 15, 2016.
On November 18, 2016, WWMN debuted its new adult album alternative format, branded as "106.3 The Mitten".
96.3 FM history
In 2013, the owners of WGHN-AM /FM applied for a construction permit on 97.7 FM in Ludington. In early 2016, the construction permit was moved to 96.3 to avoid interference from WMLQ in Manistee. In August 2016, WKLA-FM moved to 96.3 FM and continued the Westwood One Hot AC format as "Hits 96" (now "96-3 KLA" to avoid confusion with WSFQ, which, at the time, was known as "Hits 96" and also on 96.3; WKLA and WSFQ, along with WLXT in Petoskey, are known for interfering with each other in the Manistee area). Early 2019, 96.3 KLA flipped from Hot AC to Top 40 (CHR).
WHTS is a commercial radio station licensed to Coopersville, Michigan, and serving the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. It airs a top 40 (CHR) radio format and is owned by Cumulus Media. The studios are on Monroe Center Street NW in Grand Rapids.
WLXT is an adult contemporary radio station licensed to Petoskey, Michigan, at an ERP of 100,000 watts, covering most of northern Michigan. It is owned by Trish MacDonald-Garber, whose family has owned the station for over 30 years. Between mid-November and December each year, WLXT switches to an all-Christmas music format.
WHBQ-FM is a commercial radio station broadcasting a Top 40 (CHR) format. It is licensed to Germantown, Tennessee, and serves Greater Memphis. It is owned by Flinn Broadcasting with studios on Mount Moriah Road in Southeast Memphis. Despite sharing call letters, WHBQ-FM is not co-owned with WHBQ-TV.
WWMN is a radio station owned by John Yob, through licensee Mitten News LLC. Licensed to Thompsonville, Michigan, the station serves the Traverse City market with a coverage area extending from the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula south to Manistee and Cadillac.
WMJZ-FM is a commercial radio station licensed to the city of Gaylord, Michigan. It broadcasts with a power output of 50,000 watts. The station airs an adult hits format as Eagle 101.5, and is owned by 45 North Media Inc, a company owned by Bryan Hollenbaugh.
WTZM is a radio station licensed to Tawas City, Michigan. Owned by Carroll Enterprises, Inc., WTZM airs a hot adult contemporary format branded as "106.1 The Point".
WVIB is a radio station broadcasting an urban adult contemporary format fed via satellite from Westwood One. The station is licensed to Holton, Michigan and serves the Muskegon market. It can be heard as far south as Allendale, Michigan, as far east as Lakeview, Michigan, and as far north as Ludington, Michigan. However, its range is limited by WBCH to the southeast and WSJP-FM to the west.

WOAP is a commercial radio station broadcasting Regional Mexican Syndication of WMJH. Licensed to Owosso, Michigan, it serves Shiawassee County. While the station is a daytimer, licensed to operate during daylight hours only, its programming is heard around the clock on its FM translator W276CZ (103.1 MHz) in Saginaw.
WHZZ is a radio station licensed to Lansing, Michigan with a variety hits format.
WKZC is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Scottville, Michigan, the Federal Communications Commission assigned the call letters of WKZC on June 21, 1982. WKZC took to the air February 16, 1983, as a 3,000-watt station at 95.9 MHz owned by Kathy Ziehm/West Shore Broadcasting. In 1993, the station was purchased by Chickering Associates, bringing it into current ownership with longtime competitors WKLA-AM/FM, and moved to its current frequency. WKZC and the WKLA stations were sold to Lake Michigan Broadcasting in 1996.
WQKS-FM, also known as Kiss-FM 96.1, is an adult contemporary formatted radio station that serves the Montgomery Metropolitan Area, licensed to Montgomery, Alabama. The station is locally owned and operated by Bluewater Broadcasting Company, LLC. The station's transmitter is located in Montgomery. The station's studios are located on Wall St. in Midtown Montgomery.
WRRK is a variety hits radio station licensed to Braddock, Pennsylvania, serving Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and owned by Saul Frischling, through licensee WPNT Media Subsidiary, LLC. WLDN broadcasts from studios in Ludington, Michigan along with sister stations WKLA, WWMN, WKZC, WMLQ, and WWKR. It runs a news/talk/sports format and can be heard as far north as Copemish, Michigan, as far east as Reed City, Michigan, and as far south as Whitehall, Michigan. Under certain conditions, it can be heard in parts of northeastern Wisconsin and in Traverse City, Michigan. However, WLDN encounters heavy interference to the south from WFGR, which also broadcasts on 98.7 from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
