Walla Lutheran Church is a historic church in rural Roberts County, South Dakota, in the United States.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. [2]

Walla Lutheran Church was organized in 1894 by Swedish immigrant homesteaders as the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Walla Church. Built in 1902, the sanctuary is a large wood-frame church with Late Gothic Revival features. The church was dedicated in 1903. Pastor K. G. William Dahl, who later founded Bethphage Mission in Axtell, Nebraska served the church from 1907 to 1909. [3]

Joseph Bell DeRemer

Joseph Bell DeRemer (1871–1944), who lived and worked in Grand Forks, North Dakota, was one of the finest architects in North Dakota. Some of the important works produced by him or his firm, which included his son Samuel Teel DeRemer, include the President's House at the University of North Dakota, the Masonic Temple, and the Art Moderne United Lutheran Church and North Dakota State Capitol skyscraper. Joseph DeRemer also designed houses in the Grand Forks Near Southside Historic District, most notably the Tudor Revival house presently located at 521 South Sixth Street off Reeves Drive. His significant works include a number of buildings that are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Zion Lutheran Church (Volin, South Dakota) United States historic place

Zion Lutheran Church is a historic church northwest of Volin in rural Yankton County, South Dakota. It is situated 8½ miles east of the Volin exit on U.S. Route 81. The church was built in 1915 in Gothic Vernacular style. The building is of wood frame construction with a foundation of concrete block veneer. Stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings and twin steeples are distinctive features of the building. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Bethel Lutheran Church is a historic church located at Main and Fifth Streets in Faith, South Dakota. The church was built in 1925 by a Norwegian Lutheran congregation that formed in Faith in 1917. While Norwegians were one of the largest immigrant groups in western South Dakota, the church is one of the few remaining Norwegian-American sites in Meade County. The church has a vernacular Gothic design typical of Norwegian Lutheran churches. A bell tower with an octagonal spire rises above the front entrance; the tower has Gothic arched openings on all four sides of the bell. The rest of the church is relatively plain and lacking in Gothic details; its significant features include stained glass windows and a Gothic nave plan.

Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church (Swedesburg, Iowa) United States historic place

Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church, now known as Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, is a historic church located in Swedesburg, Iowa, United States. The congregation was officially organized in 1866 by the Swedish Lutheran congregation from New Sweden in Jefferson County, Iowa. The present church was built in 1928 as the third church to stand on the same site. The first frame church, built in 1868, was destroyed in a fire in 1883. The second frame church, with a 110-foot (34 m) tower, was completed the same year. In 1927 it too was also destroyed by fire. The congregation hired Burlington, Iowa architect W.F. Weibley to design the present Late Gothic Revival church building. It is composed of tan brick with Bedford stone trim. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
