Wassabi were a Romanian musical girl group established in 2006 under the management of Marius Moga, who also wrote many of their songs. The band was made up of Laura Petrescu, Veronica Tecaru, Ramona Sora, and Luisa Luca.
The group launched its series of hits with the album Și m-am îndrăgostit de tine. The album contained "Have Some Fun with Radio 21" that was used as the signature song for the Romanian radio station Radio 21. The band also released the title song from the album "Și m-am îndrăgostit de tine" as well as "Lonely Girl". Their biggest hit was "Don't Go Baby" written by Marius Moga. [1]
The band also took part in Selecţia Naţională Eurovision 2007 to represent Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest. The song was "Do the Tango with Me". Wassabi also presented another song "Crazy" in collaboration with band Morandi, but the song was withdrawn prior to the final to allow better chances for "Do the Tango with Me".
The band continued until 2009 when Laura Petrescu announced she was leaving the band. [2] The band disbanded soon after, although Lora came back to be reconciled with her bandmates in 2011. [3]
Laura Petrescu known by her mononym Lora (born in Vaslui, Romania on 23 July 1982) became a very famous solo singer. She took part in 2010 in collaboration with Sonny Flame in Selecţia Naţională 2010 with the song "Come Along". The song came 7th overall [4] despite its great popularity. Lora has collaborated with many acts including Sensor in the open concert in Bucharest. [5] with Phelipe in "Hot Spot" and in 2010 with Adrian Sîna of the band Akcent in "My Passion" with great success in Romania and internationally. The music video featured models Ana Stefanescu and Silviu Tolu. Lora released the song "No More Tears" with the help of Adrian Sîna also with an accompanying music video in 2011. Her song "Fall in Love Tonight" has also found international success.
Luisa Ionela Luca, known professionally as Minelli, is a Romanian singer, songwriter and lyricist. Minelli is appreciated in Romania as a composer and lyricist, but her international fame as a soloist was ensured by singles such as "Mariola" (2019) and "Rampampam" (2021). [6] As a songwriter and lyricist, Minelli's repertoire contains hit songs such as "Inimi de ceară" (2017) performed by Andra, [7] "Touch Me" (2019) performed by Antonia [8] or "Flashbacks" (2021) performed by Inna. Luisa Ionela Luca, known professionally as Minelli, is a Romanian singer and songwriter. Upon being part of the girl group Wassabi from 2006 to 2009, she rose to fame with her 2019 single "Mariola", which topped the Romanian Airplay 100 chart. Subsequently, in 2021, "Rampampam" became a hit in multiple territories.

Laura Petrescu, better known as Lora is a Romanian pop singer, model, judge on The Next Star show, and TV personality. Before her solo career, she was part of the Romanian band Wassabi.
Anda Adam is a Romanian singer and model. She is best known for her singles "My Love on You" and "Panda Madam". Anda began her music career in 1999, after collaborating with Romanian band R.A.C.L.A. on the songs "Nu mă uita" and "Fiesta" for their EP Nu mă uita. This inspired Anda to begin her own music career, releasing her debut EP Ca Între Fete later that year. In 2003, she released her secpmd EP Doar cu tine. Her debut album, Confidențial, was released on 14 April 2005, and featured the successful singles "Ce ți-aș face (Selecta)", "Ajutor", and "Nai, Nai". The album has sold over 20,000 copies in Romania as of 2007, being certified platinum. Her second album, Queen of Hearts, was released in February 2008, featuring the singles "Punani", and "Sufletul Meu", which became one of the most played songs on the radio back then. Her single "My Love On You" was released on 26 November 2009, which became the singer's biggest hit, reaching number one on Turkey and seven in Romania. Her third studio album, AMO was released in September 2013. The album featured singles that charted in both Romania and Turkey, such as "My Love On You", "Panda Madam", "Feel", "Show Me", "Say Goodbye", and many others.
Romania had originally applied and selected an entry to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden, however, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) removed the Romanian national broadcaster Televiziunea Română (TVR) from all EBU member services, including the contest, following repeated non-payment of debts on 22 April 2016. With TVR's inability to broadcast the contest, the Romanian entry became ineligible to compete and was removed from the contest.

A total of sixty entries were selected and twelve competed in each semi-final where a five-member jury panel selected three entries to advance to the final. The fifteen qualifiers competed in the final on 25 February 2018 where "Goodbye" performed by The Humans was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote.

The track was written by vocalist Cristina Caramarcu, while production and composition were handled by fellow members Alexandru Matei and Alin Neagoe. "Goodbye" is a 1980s-inspired soft rock and pop rock ballad whose instrumentation includes a cello; lyrically, it is a manifesto that discourages the abandonment of one's dreams. It also discusses the overcoming of suicidal ideation, depression and internal battles. Reviewers likened the track to the music of Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion and Heart.

Ion Chirinciuc, better known by stage name Vanotek, is a Moldovan-Romanian record producer and disc jockey. He started producing music for native artists before releasing his debut single "My Heart is Gone" in 2015. The song became successful in Romania, and also brought him a nomination for Best Romanian Act at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards. In November 2017, Global Records distributed his debut studio album No Sleep. Two of its singles, "Tell Me Who" and "Back to Me", reached the charts in Romania and Russia, among other countries.

The Romanian broadcaster Televiziunea Română (TVR) organised the national final Selecția Națională 2023 in order to select the Romanian entry for the 2023 contest. Twelve entries were selected to compete in the national final on 11 February 2023 where "D.G.T. " performed by Theodor Andrei was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote.
