According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.2 square miles (91.3 km2), all land.
As of the census [1] of 2000, there were 1,376 people, 496 households, and 373 families residing in the township. The population density was 39.0 inhabitants per square mile (15.1/km2). There were 523 housing units at an average density of 14.8 per square mile (5.7/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 96.88% White, 0.36% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.73% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.18% of the population.
There were 496 households, out of which 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.9% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.6% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.23.
In the township the population was spread out, with 29.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
