The weightlifting competition at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City consisted of seven weight classes, all for men only. The competition was held from 17 to 21 October 1968. [1]
It also counted as 1968 World Weightlifting Championships. Soviet Union finished first in medal table after winning three gold medals. Japan, Iran, Finland and Poland won the remaining gold medals.

Hiromi Miyake, born 18 November 1985) is a Japanese weightlifter. In the 48kg category, she won the silver medal at the 2012 Olympics and won bronze at the 2016 Olympics. Her father and coach is Yoshiyuki Miyake, who was a bronze medallist in weightlifting at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Her uncle Yoshinobu Miyake was a gold medalist in weightlifting at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics.

He was part of the first Japanese team that succeeded to win gold medals in the team event at the Summer Olympics (1960) and World Championships (1962). In 1964 he won the first individual all-around Olympic gold medal for Japan. He was the flag bearer at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Mohamed Kheir Tarabulsi was an amateur Lebanese weightlifter. At the 1972 Summer Olympics, he won the silver medal in the men's Middleweight category.
Ivan Kizimov was a Soviet and Russian equestrian and Olympic champion. He was born in Novocherkassk. He won an individual gold medal in dressage at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, and a gold medal in team dressage at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He won a bronze medal in individual dressage at the 1970 Dressage World Championship, and team medals in 1966 (bronze), 1970 (gold) and 1974 (silver). He also won eight medals in total at the European Dressage Championships, five silver and three bronze medals.

Weightlifting was introduced to Armenia in the late 1920s and became widely practiced after World War II. Today, it is one of the country's most popular sports. The sport is regulated by the Armenian Weightlifting Federation. The first weightlifters from Soviet Armenia made successful appearances the international stage in the 1970s. Vardan Militosyan won a silver at the 1976 Olympics, and later Yurik Vardanyan became an Olympic, World and European champion through the late 1970s and the early 1980s. Oksen Mirzoyan and Yurik Sarkisyan rose to top positions in the 1980s. After its independence from the Soviet Union, Armenia successfully held its weightlifting traditions and continues to be one of the strongest nations in Europe. In 2008, the Armenia team placed first at the European Championship. In the 2008 Summer Olympics Armenia won three bronze medals. Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan is Armenia's only world champion with his successful appearance in 2010.
Salvador Romualdo del Rosario, nicknamed, The Mighty Mite, is a Filipino weightlifter who competed at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics with a best finish of ninth in 1972 and 1972.

Enzo Kofi Kuworge is a Dutch weightlifter. He became junior super heavyweight world champion at the 2021 Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He represented the Netherlands at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Jonathan Antonio Muñoz Martínez is a Mexican weightlifter. In 2019, he won the gold medal in the men's 67 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. He is also a four-time medalist, including gold, at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships. He also competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
