The 2019 World Weightlifting Championships was held in Pattaya, Thailand from 18 to 27 September 2019. [1]
On September 12, Egypt was banned from competing at these Championships due to multiple doping offenses. [2] [3] The host nation, Thailand, was also banned from the Championships for the same reason.

European Weightlifting Championships is an annual event organised by the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF). It has been held since 1896. A separate event for women was held from 1988 to 1997, after which both championships have been held as one event.

This article details the qualifying phase for weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The competition at these Games includes 196 athletes. Each competing nation is allowed to enter a maximum of 8 competitors, 4 men and 4 women. The IWF released its qualification list on 28 June 2021.
The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 1 to 10 November 2018. This was the first World Championship after the IWF changed their weight classes and nullified all world records. As a result, this World Championship saw a total of 31 senior men's world records and 41 senior women's world records set.

It was the first time Colombia hosted the World Weightlifting Championships.
