The men's 62 kg weightlifting event was the second lightest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 62 kilograms of body mass. The whole competition took place on 5 October, but was divided in two parts due to the number of competitors. Group B weightlifters competed at 10:30, and Group A, at 14:00. Augustina Nwaokolo won the first gold medal of the games which see her setting a new Games record of 175 kg after lifting 77 kg in the snatch and 98 kg in the clean and jerk. This saw her became the first Nigerian teenage weightlifter to achieved that in an International competitions and the Commonwealth Games. The event took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
