The Western Championships [1] also known as the Western States Championships or Western Sectional Championships [2] was a men's and women's open tennis tournament staged annually at various locations from 1887 until 1978.
On July 4, 1887, the first Championships of the Western States were inaugurated at the Scarlett Ribbon Club in Chicago, Illinois, United States, [3] and the first men's champion was Charles Amherst Chase. In 1895 a women's championship event was added to the schedule which was won by Marion Capwell.
In 1973 the final ladies championship was held that was won by the Australian player Evonne Goolagong. The men's tournament continued to play until 1978 which was won by the American player Eddie Dibbs.
The championships were part of the USLTA Circuit from 1887 until 1923. It became of part of the ILTF Circuit following the United States joining the International Lawn Tennis Federation in 1925 until 1969 In 1970 the tournament became part of the ILTF Grand Prix Circuit. In 1955 and from 1969 until 1973 the women's event was also valid as the Tri-State Championships.
The championships have been played in the following cities; Chicago, Cincinnati, Harbor Springs, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Lake Forest, Minnetonka, Neenah, River Forest and Sharonville. [4]

The U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships is an annual ATP Tour tennis tournament. Founded in 1910, it has been held in nearly two dozen cities, and since 2001 has been held in Houston, Texas. It currently pays out US$742,350 with the winner receiving US$100,635. It is the only remaining ATP World Tour-level tournament in the United States to be played on clay courts.

The tournament was played at various times on clay courts and grass courts, and ran until 1968 for women's events, and 1973 for men's events.
The Exmouth Open, originally called the Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club Tournament or simply Exmouth Tournament, was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1880. From 1890 the event was known as the Exmouth Open Tennis Tournament. It was hosted by the Exmouth Archery, Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Exmouth, Devon, Great Britain until 1927. It was then hosted by the newly founded Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club until it was abolished as a senior tour event in 1975.

The Old Dominion Championship also known as the Old Dominion Open Championship was a men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1905. It was first played at the Hermitage Golf Club, Richmond, Virginia, United States in 1905. In 1936 the final edition was played Country Club of Virginia, after which when it was downgraded from the main worldwide ILTF Circuit and discontinued.

It was first organised by the Philippine Tennis Association (PhilTA) and first played at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, Manila, Philippines. This international tournament was part of the ILTF World Circuit until 1978 when it was discontinued.

It was staged as part of ILTF Australasia Circuit a sub circuit of the ILTF World Circuit until 1972, then became part of the ILTF Independent Tour until 1984 and finally part of the Tennis Australia Circuit till 1988 when it was discontinued as a senior event.

It was played at the Stade Toulousain Tennis Club, on outdoor clay courts in Toulouse, France. The event was part of the ILTF World Circuit when it was discontinued in 1972.
The Belgian National Championships was a combined men's and women's closed clay court tennis tournament founded in 1895 as the Belgian Championships. also known as the Belgian National Hard Court Championships or the Belgian Outdoor Championships. The tournament was first held in Liège, Belgium and ran annually until 1983 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Independent Circuit.

The Northern California Championships was a men's and women's international hard court tennis tournament founded in circa 1900 as the Championships of the Northern Counties of California a doubles event only. In 1902 a singles event was added to the schedule for the first time. It was first played at the Sacramento Lawn Tennis Club Sacramento, California, United States. It was also hosted at other locations throughout its run until 1974 when it was discontinued, and was known as the Northern California Sectional Championships at that point.
