The Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) is an American semi-professional indoor soccer league. It was formed on June 20, 2014 [1] by a group of arena operators and team owners in the Pacific Northwest. The WISL began its first season on November 15, 2014 with five teams. [2] [3] [4]

Contents

Founding member clubs included Arlington Aviators, Bellingham United FC, OlyTown Artesians,Tacoma Stars and Wenatchee Fire.

Many of the founding clubs previously competed in the Premier Arena Soccer League.

Through nine seasons only two clubs (Tacoma Stars Reserves, Bellingham United FC) have won a league championship.

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) was the top professional indoor soccer league in the United States. The league was a member of both the United States Soccer Federation and FIFA. The MISL had replaced the NPSL which folded in 2001. According to MISL.net, the league ceased operations as of May 31, 2008. "We are considering structural changes that will bring us greater efficiencies, while also allowing long term growth and expansion of the League", said John Hantz, former Chairman of the MISL, and Owner/Operator of the Detroit Ignition. All the teams from MISL went to the new indoor leagues: NISL, MASL and the XSL. The NISL and XSL used the same playing rules as the MISL.

Predrag Radosavljević, better known by the nickname Preki, is a former soccer player and coach. He is currently an assistant coach with Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). He previously coached Sacramento Republic FC and Saint Louis FC in the United Soccer League and coached in MLS with Toronto FC and Chivas USA. Born in Yugoslavia, he represented the United States national team.

The Dallas Sidekicks were one of the longest operating professional soccer teams, either indoor or outdoor, in the United States, based in Dallas, Texas, and operating from 1984 until suspending operations following the 2003–04 season. The team was founded as a member of the original Major Indoor Soccer League. Over the years, the team played in four other leagues. The team's most famous player was Tatu, who was known for throwing his shirt into the stands after every goal. The team hosted the 1989 MISL All-Star Game. The team was one of the most successful franchises in indoor soccer history, making the playoffs in 16 of their 19 seasons of play. In the playoffs, the team made it to the championship game/series eight times, winning four titles.

Joseph Waters is an Irish former professional footballer who played in England and the United States. He lives in the United States where he coaches Tacoma Stars of PASL and youth soccer teams.

The Seattle Sounders were an American professional soccer team based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1974, the team belonged to the North American Soccer League where it played both indoor and outdoor soccer. The team folded after the 1983 NASL outdoor season but the name was revived in 1994 for a lower-division team and Seattle Sounders FC of the top-flight Major League Soccer, founded in 2007.

The Wenatchee Fire FC was an American indoor soccer team founded in 2005. WFFC presently compete in the Western Indoor Soccer League. Wenatchee Fire play their home matches at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsplex in Wenatchee, Washington.

The Tacoma Stars are an American soccer organization that fields men's teams in both the Major Arena Soccer League, an indoor soccer league, and USL League Two, a minor outdoor league. Founded in 2003, the indoor team plays at ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington. First playing in 2024, the outdoor men's Stars team and outdoor women's team, the Tacoma Galaxy, play at Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma, Washington.

The 2012–13 Tacoma Stars season was the third season of the Tacoma Stars professional indoor soccer club as a franchise in the Professional Arena Soccer League. The Stars, a Pacific Division team, played their home games in the new Pacific Sports Center in Tacoma, Washington. The team was led by head coach Joe Waters.

The 2011–12 Tacoma Stars season was the second season of the Tacoma Stars professional indoor soccer club as a franchise in the Professional Arena Soccer League. Head coach Leighton O'Brien led the team to a 3–13 regular season record, leaving them 5th in the Western Division and out of the post-season.

The Evergreen Premier League (EPLWA) is an amateur men's soccer league in the U.S. state of Washington affiliated with the United States Adult Soccer Association. The league was established in 2013 and is contested by ten teams— eight from Western Washington and two from Eastern Washington. The current champions are Bellingham United. The league is headquartered in Bellingham.

The 2013–14 Premier Arena Soccer League season consists of 43 teams grouped into 6 divisions across the US. The Premier Arena Soccer League continues to serve as the developmental league to the Professional Arena Soccer League.

Seattle Impact FC was an American professional indoor soccer team that began play as a member of the Major Arena Soccer League with its 2014-15 season. Based in Seattle, Washington, the Impact played its home games at the ShoWare Center in nearby Kent. After struggles on and off the field, the team's assets were sold mid-season to Lane Smith whose Tacoma Stars completed Seattle's scheduled 2015 regular season games.

The 2014–15 Seattle Impact season was the only season of the Seattle Impact professional indoor soccer club. The Impact, a Pacific Division team in the Major Arena Soccer League, played their home games in the ShoWare Center in the Seattle suburb of Kent, Washington. Alma Mana'o is an American Samoan women's footballer based in King County, Washington. She holds the record for the most caps for the American Samoa women's football team. In 2018, Mana'o led the American Samoa team as co-captain in the Oceania Football Confederation Women's Nations Cup qualification tournament in Fiji, the first time in 20 years that the American Samoa women's team was involved in the qualification stages for the World Cup. Hal Uderitz is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder for MLS Next Pro club Colorado Rapids 2.

Tyler Malik John is an American professional soccer player who currently plays as a center-back for Maharlika Taguig of the Philippines Football League.
