The Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) is the governing body of minor and senior sports in a region encompassing Grey County, Bruce County, Perth County, Huron County, northern Middlesex County, and northern Wellington County. The WOAA Senior Hockey League has been around since 1948.
The WOAA controls these sports: Senior Hockey, Women's Hockey, Minor Hockey, and Softball. The WOAA also actively trains officials for these sports. The WOAA's jurisdiction over local Senior Hockey has lasted since the 1948-1949 season but the association was actually established in 1942 by W. T. (Doc) Cruickshank of Wingham, Ontario. The WOAA became an incorporated body on July 24, 1986 under the Ontario Corporations Act.
In 2004, there were 545 sports teams with approximately 9881 registered participants and an addition approximate 2500 volunteers, executives, convenors and officials involved with the WOAA.
These are the major member towns as agreed to by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and the Ontario Hockey Federation in 2006. These centres are governed by the WOAA, but the WOAA works under the OMHA. The WOAA is responsible for its own tournaments, disciplinary system, and playoffs, but must provide the accounts of these actions to the OMHA.

The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) is the governing body for the majority of junior and senior level ice hockey teams in the Province of Ontario. The OHA is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation along with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. Other Ontario sanctioning bodies along with the OHF include the Hockey Eastern Ontario and Hockey Northwestern Ontario. The OHA control 3 tiers of junior hockey; the "Tier 2 Junior "A", Junior "B", Junior "C", and one senior hockey league, Allan Cup Hockey.
The Durham Huskies were an ice hockey franchise based in the town of Durham, Ontario, Canada. The team is actually a series of teams that have spanned nine decades and through an uncountable series of leagues. The Huskies have existed under of couple short lived monikers before finding their name by accident in the 1950s. This team has spanned the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels of Ontario hockey.
The Durham Thundercats, originally the Durham 72's, are a senior hockey team based out of Durham, Ontario, Canada. The Thundercats date back to the town's Centennial, 1972, and have been an extremely successful team in all loops of the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior "AA" Hockey League.

The Goderich Pirates are a senior hockey team based out of Goderich, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League.
The Petrolia Squires are a Canadian senior ice hockey team based in Petrolia, Ontario. They play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League and are two-time Allan Cup National Champions.

The league was originally sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association, but later the Western Ontario Athletic Association incorporated it into their WOAA Senior Hockey League.
The Mildmay Monarchs were a senior hockey team based out of Mildmay, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League.
The Komoka Classics were a senior ice hockey team based out of Komoka, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. They folded in 2014 after winning the WOAA Sr. AA championship.
The Wingham Bulls were a senior hockey team based out of Wingham, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League.
The Listowel Jets were a senior hockey team based out of Listowel, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League.
The Exeter Mohawks were a senior hockey team based out of Exeter, Ontario, Canada. The team was previously known as the Hensall Sherwoods, but relocated to Exeter in the summer of 2007. The Mohawks played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League.
The Arthur Tigers were a Canadian senior hockey team based in Arthur, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League.
The Wingham Ironmen are a Junior ice hockey team based in Wingham, Ontario, Canada. They began play in the Northern Junior D Hockey League and eventually moved up to the Western Junior C Hockey League where they played until the 2016-17 season when the league became part of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) as the Pollock Division.
The Lakeshore Winterhawks were a senior hockey team based out of Southampton, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League and the Northern Senior A Hockey League. From 1967 until the mid-1980s, the team was known as the Port Elgin Sunocos from Port Elgin, Ontario and spent some of their time in the Major Intermediate A Hockey League and in for contention for the Hardy Cup.
