Buena Vista is an independent city located in the Blue Ridge Mountains region of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,641. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the independent cities of Buena Vista and Lexington, along with surrounding Rockbridge County, for statistical purposes.

Interstate 64 and West Virginia Route 25 pass by the community, which has grown to intermingle with nearby Dunbar. As of 2018, the community had a population of 1489, 54% of whom were African American.
George Washington's Gristmill was part of the original Mount Vernon plantation, constructed during the lifetime of the United States' first president. The original structure was destroyed about 1850. The Commonwealth of Virginia and the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association have reconstructed the gristmill and the adjacent distillery. The reconstructed buildings are located at their original site three miles (5 km) west of Mount Vernon proper near Woodlawn Plantation in Alexandria, Virginia. Because the reconstructed buildings embody the distinctive characteristics of late eighteenth century methods of production and are of importance to the history of Virginia, the site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places despite the fact that the buildings are not original.
The Mountain Parkway Byway and Mountain Parkway Backway are two routes in northern Webster County, West Virginia. The Byway is a state-designated scenic byway which follows West Virginia Route 20 for 9.8 miles (15.8 km), traversing the headwaters of several mountain streams including the Right Fork Little Kanawha River, Jerry Run, and the Left and Laurel Forks of Holly River. The Backway explores backroads in the same area, is 32 miles (51 km) long, and follows stretches of the Right Fork Little Kanawha River and Left Fork Holly River for portions of its route.

Mt. Pleasant School, now known as Mt. Olive Methodist Church, is a historic one-room school building located near Gerrardstown, Berkeley County, West Virginia. It was built about 1897 and is a one-story, gable roofed vernacular building. It measures approximately 24 feet wide and 39 feet deep. The exterior is finished in native random ashlar limestone. It is built into the slope of the hillside, and features a raised front porch. The school was built for African American children. It ceased use as a school in 1939 and began use as a church in 1942.
Old Sutton High School, also known as Sutton Grade School, was a historic school located at Sutton, Braxton County, West Virginia. It was built in 1906, and was a three-story red brick building. It measured 68 feet by 64 feet and featured a three-story, truncated entrance tower. It housed eight classrooms, a full basement, and an auditorium on the third floor. Rooms had high, pressed tin ceilings.
Krenn School, also known as St. Clara Community Building, is a historic one-room school building located at New Milton, Doddridge County, West Virginia. It was built in 1897, and is a one-story rectangular, wood-frame building measuring 35 feet deep and 24 feet wide. It has a low pitched gable roof covered in corrugated metal. The building was renovated in 1922. It was used as a school until the late 1930s, at which time it became a community center.
Duck Run Cable Suspension Bridge, also known as Trubada Swinging Bridge, is a historic cable suspension bridge that spans the Little Kanawha River at Trubada, Gilmer County, West Virginia. The bridge was built in 1922. The bridge is 351 feet, 7 inches, with a main span of 209 feet, 9 inches, and two half spans of 76 feet, 6 inches, and 65 feet, 4 inches. It features four reinforced concrete towers for the two wire rope cables.
Upper Glady School is a historic one-room school building located near Crawford, Lewis County, West Virginia. It was built about 1900, and is a frame building measuring 28 feet by 24 feet and painted white. Also on the property is a coal house used to store coal for fuel. The school operated until 1965.
Weston Colored School, also known as the Central West Virginia Genealogical & Historical Library and Museum and Frontier School, is a historic one-room school building located at Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia. It was built in 1882, and is a single-story rubbed red brick building on a fieldstone foundation. It originally measured 22 feet by 28 feet, then enlarged in 1928 by 12 feet, 6 inches. It was used as an educational facility for the community's African-American youth until desegregation in 1954. It was subsequently used for storage, then an agricultural classroom for the Lewis County High School, and as a shop for mentally disabled students. It afterwards was used by the Central West Virginia Genealogical & Historical Library and Museum.
Dents Run Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge located near Laurel Point, Monongalia County, West Virginia. It was built in 1889, and spans Dents Run. The bridge is of Kingpost truss construction and measures 12 feet and 10 inches wide and 40 feet long. By 1981, it was one of only 17 covered bridges left in West Virginia.
Bennington No. 4, also known as the Bennington School, is a one-room schoolhouse near Waterloo, Iowa. Built in 1911, it served four sections which provided as many as thirty or more students for first through eighth grades. Students in higher grades attended Waterloo East High School. The school served the predominantly German-American community until 1955 when it was closed. While it was open, the school also served as a community center. In 1958 the vacant building was sold to the local Sage family, whose members had attended and taught at the school. Restoration work took place through the 1990s.
Starkey School is a historic school building located at Starkey, Roanoke County, Virginia. It was built about 1915, and is thought to incorporate an earlier one-room school built about 1894. It is a brick school building flanked by wings built in 1928, and measuring 24 feet by 33 feet. In December 1962, the school was closed and was purchased by Roanoke County. The school is now privately owned.
Old Pine Church, also historically known as Mill Church, Nicholas Church, and Pine Church, is a mid-19th century church located near to Purgitsville, West Virginia, United States. It is among the earliest extant log churches in Hampshire County, along with Capon Chapel and Mount Bethel Church.
