During the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, athletes from Yugoslavia and Macedonia competed as independent Olympic participants. Macedonian athletes could not appear under their own flag because their NOC had not been formed. Yugoslavia was under United Nations sanctions which prevented the country from taking part in the Olympics. The 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships was held in Christchurch, New Zealand from January 21 to 30, 2011. Athletes with a disability competed, and the Championships was a qualifying event for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Katie Ledecky American swimmer

Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky is an American competitive swimmer. Having won 7 Olympic gold medals and 15 world championship gold medals, the most in history for a female swimmer, she is considered one of the greatest swimmers of all time. Ledecky is the world record holder in the women's 400-, 800-, and 1500-meter freestyle. She also holds the fastest-ever times in the women's 500-, 1000-, 1500-, and 1650-yard freestyle events.

Hannah Cockroft British wheelchair racer

Hannah Lucy Cockroft is a British wheelchair racer specialising in sprint distances in the T34 classification. She holds the world records for the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres and 1500 metres in her classification and the Paralympic records at 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres and 800 metres. Competing for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, she won two gold medals. She won three further gold medals at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

2013 IPC Athletics World Championships

The 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships was the biggest track and field competition for athletes with a disability since the 2012 Summer Paralympics. It was held in Lyon, France, and lasted from 20 to 28 July. Around 1,100 athletes competed, from 94 different countries. The event was held in the Stade du Rhône located at the Parc de Parilly in Vénissieux, in Lyon Metropolis.

Kadeena Cox British paralympic athlete

Kadeena Cox is a British television presenter and parasport athlete competing in T38 para-athletics sprint events and C4 para-cycling events. She was part of the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships and the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, in which she won world titles in the T37 100m and C4 500m time trial respectively.

Liam Bevan Malone is a former New Zealand para-athlete, primarily competing in sprint events. He represented New Zealand at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he won gold medals in the men's 200 metres T44 and 400 metres T44, and the silver medal in the men's 100 metres T44.

The Men's 100m athletics events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics take place at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange from September 8 to September 16, 2016. A total of 16 events were contested over this distance, and entry was open in 19 classifications.

Hamide Kurt Doğangün is a Turkish female Paralympian athlete competing in the T53 disability class sprint events of 100m and 400m, T52/T53 class middle distance event of 800m as well as T53/T54 class 4 × 400 m relay event.

The Women's 400m athletics events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics take place at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange from 8 September to 17 September 2016. A total of 12 events were contested over this distance for 15 different classifications.

Athletics contests were held at the 2007 Parapan American Games from August 13 to 19 at the João Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
