Xiombarg plaumanni is a species of goblin spider occurring in southeastern Brazil and adjacent Argentina. It is the only species in the genus Xiombarg. [1] Italian arachnologist Paolo Marcello Brignoli described X. plaumanni in 1979, naming the genus after Xiombarg, a character in Michael Moorcock novels. [2] [3]
Pirate spiders, members of the family Mimetidae, are araneomorph spiders which typically feed on other spiders.
Tegenaria is a genus of fast-running funnel weavers that occupy much of the Northern Hemisphere except for Japan and Indonesia. It was first described by Pierre André Latreille in 1804, though many of its species have been moved elsewhere. The majority of these were moved to Eratigena, including the giant house spider and the hobo spider.
Neoleptoneta is a genus of North American leptonetids that was first described by Paolo Marcello Brignoli in 1972.
Uapou is a monotypic genus of South Pacific sheet weaver spiders containing the single species, Uapou maculata. It was first described by Lucien Berland in 1935, and is found on Ua Pou, one of the Marquesas Islands. It was transferred to the family Symphytognathidae by H. W. Levi in 1972, but this was rejected by Brignoli in 1980. The World Spider Catalog places it in the family Linyphiidae.
Harpactea is a genus of woodlouse hunting spiders that was first described by W. S. Bristowe in 1939. They are non-web building predators that forage on the ground and on tree trunks at night, mainly in xerothermic forests. During the day, they hide in silk retreats they build under rocks or bark.
Histopona is a genus of funnel weavers first described as a sub-genus of Hadites by Tamerlan Thorell in 1870. It was elevated to genus by Brignoli in 1972.
Eratigena is a genus of spider in the family Agelenidae. Most of its species were moved from the genus Tegenaria in 2013, of which the genus name is an anagram. Two species that frequently build webs in and around human dwellings are now placed in this genus: the hobo spider, native to Europe and Central Asia and introduced to North America, and the giant house spider, native to Europe and also introduced into North America.
Aterigena is a genus of funnel weavers first described by A. Bolzern, A. Hänggi & D. Burckhardt in 2010. The name is an anagram of Tegenaria. It was created in 2010 for a group of Tegenaria and Malthonica species that formed a clade in a phylogenetic analysis. The genus was later found to be monophyletic, further separating Eratigena from Tegenaria and Malthonica.
Pseudanapis is a genus of araneomorph spiders in the family Anapidae, first described by Eugène Simon in 1905. It is a senior synonym of "Gossiblemma" and "Amrishoonops".
Kaemis is a genus of woodlouse hunting spiders that was first described by Christa L. Deeleman-Reinhold in 1993.
Harmiella is a monotypic genus of South American dwarf sheet spiders containing the single species, Harmiella schiapelliae. It was first described by Paolo Brignoli in 1979, and has only been found in Brazil. The genus is named in honour of German arachnologist Marie Harm.
Ozarkia is a genus of North American leptonetids that was first described by J. Ledford in 2011.
Cepheia is a monotypic genus of European araneomorph spiders in the family Synaphridae containing the single species, Cepheia longiseta. It was first described as Theonoe longiseta in 1881, and was moved to its own genus in 1894. Originally placed with the tangle-web spiders, it was moved several times before settling in the Synaphridae in 2003. Paolo Brignoli noted that it is an unidentifiable theridiid.
Cuangoblemma is a monotypic genus of Angolan araneomorph spiders in the family Tetrablemmidae containing the single species, Cuangoblemma machadoi. It was first described by Paolo Marcello Brignoli in 1974, and is found in Angola.
Melloina is a genus of baldlegged spiders that was first described by Paolo Marcello Brignoli in 1985. As of June 2019 it contains only three species, found only in Panama and Venezuela: M. gracilis, M. rickwesti, and M. santuario.
Gertschiola is a genus of Argentinian cellar spiders that was first described by Paolo Marcello Brignoli in 1981. As of June 2019 it contains only two species, found only in Argentina: G. macrostyla and G. neuquena.
Domitius is a genus of European scaffold web spiders first described by C. Ribera in 2018.
Reo is a genus of pirate spiders first described by Paolo Marcello Brignoli in 1979. As of April 2019 it contains only two species.
Carniella weyersi is a species of comb-footed spider in the family Theridiidae. It is found in China and Sumatra.
Kut is a genus of Middle Eastern woodlouse hunting spiders. The type species was first described by Paolo Brignoli from a male found in Turkey, and it was placed with Harpactocrates. In a 1988 study, Christa L. Deeleman-Reinhold expressed doubt of the holotype's placement, but it wasn't transferred to its own genus until 2019. Two other species were identified, all with the same distinctive pedipalp features, including a pear-shaped tegulum with an otherwise featureless embolus. As of April 2022 it contains only three species: K. dimensis, K. izmiricus, and K. troglophilus.
