Xtra is the fourth extended play by Danish singer-songwriter Oh Land. It is her first release written entirely in Danish, and was distributed digitally on 11 November 2022 through Tusk or Tooth Records and Capitol Records Denmark. All four of the project's songs are written by the singer and her boyfriend, Adnan Zukanovic. The two, along with William Gerdes and Vasco, are the four producers of the EP.

Background and release

Xtra was written entirely in Oh Land's native Danish, becoming her first project to do so. In a 2023 interview with B.T. , she explained that ultimately the songs decide what language she writes in, not herself.^[1] She clarified, however, her releases in 2023 would be performed in English.^[2] The EP was preceded in release by its two singles, "Sådan Ligger Landet" and "Bad Timing". The former was the first song unveiled from Xtra, and was digitally distributed on 9 September 2022.^[3] It served as her entry on the Danish television series Min sang til Danmark, where fifteen Danish musicians competed to create an original song to Denmark; she appeared in the series' fourth episode alongside Ankerstjerne and Mekdes.^[4] The song's accompanying music video was released two days later.^[5] "Bad Timing" was released on 21 October 2022.^[6]

Music and lyrics

TecoApple described "Bad Timing" as a danceable electropop song with fluttering synths. Oh Land sings the song's verses in Danish but repeats the line "Bad timing" in English.^[2]

<i>Oh Land</i> (album) 2011 studio album by Oh Land

Oh Land is the second studio album by Danish singer Oh Land, released on 14 March 2011 by Fake Diamond Records, Epic Records, and A:larm Music. Before moving to Brooklyn in 2010, she met with a representative from Epic Records at a SXSW event and was eventually signed to the label in 2009. She began working on the album, collaborating with musicians like Jimmy Harry, Dan Carey, and Lester Mendez. A digital extended play titled Oh Land EP was released in October 2010, featuring five songs that would later appear on the parent album.

Rasmus Thude is a Danish singer and songwriter with more than 20 million plays worldwide. He has previously participated in the Danish X Factor in 2010. In January 2011 his song LLL got him worldwide attention when it was mistaken with the American singer, Justin Timberlake. The song had been renamed "Take You Down" and both media and fans thought it was a new single from JT. In 2014 Rasmus Thude enrolled at DTU studying Processing and Innovation. In 2015 he created his first app start-up "Ta' det", where he is currently working as CEO.

Danish singer Oh Land has released six studio albums, four extended plays (EPs), 31 singles, nine promotional singles, and 15 music videos. When signed to Fake Diamond Records, Oh Land released her debut album, Fauna, in November 2008. Following a performance at the 2009 SXSW event, she met a representative from Epic Records and signed with the label. She released her major-label debut single "Sun of a Gun" in October 2010, which charted in five countries and served as the lead single to her 2011 self-titled studio album. Oh Land peaked at number five in Denmark and also entered the Billboard 200 in the United States. It would go on to be certified Platinum for selling over 20,000 copies in the former country. Martin Jensen is a Danish DJ and record producer best known for the 2016 single "Solo Dance". His videos feature sounds sampled from viral videos and made into tropical house mixes. He has over 10 years of experience of being club DJ, in Sunny Beach. In October 2016, he was ranked 82 out of the 100 best DJs in the world by DJ Magazine. In 2018, he was ranked 56 out of the 100 best DJs in the world. In October 2019, Jensen was ranked 45 out of DJ Mag's 100 best DJs in the world placing 9 positions higher than the previous year.

"Salt" is a song by Danish singer and songwriter Oh Land for her fifth studio album, Family Tree (2019). Oh Land wrote the song with Thomas Bartlett, the sole producer. Her boyfriend, Adi Zukanovic, plays piano on it with Bartlett and Hungarian conductor Peter Pejtsik. The song represents a change in style from her previous work and features a string-led production with Oh Land's distinctive breathy vocals. The lyrics to the song are a metaphor, describing the unpredictable nature of life's events. The song was performed by Oh Land during a live show at Koncerthuset in Copenhagen.

<i>Replanting Family Tree</i> 2019 EP / remix album by Oh Land and Arthur Moon

Replanting Family Tree is a remix extended play by Danish singer-songwriter Oh Land and American musician Arthur Moon. It was released digitally in Denmark on 18 September 2019, through Tusk or Tooth Records. The EP is the companion release to Oh Land's fifth studio album, Family Tree (2019). The former contains four remixes of songs, created by Moon, that originally appeared on the parent album. Additionally, the previously unreleased "When a Hawk Comes By" appears as a bonus track on it, co-written by the sole producer, Thomas Bartlett, and Oh Land's boyfriend, Adnan Zukanovic.

"I Miss One Week Ago" is a song by Danish singer and songwriter Oh Land. It was written, recorded, and released during the month of March 2020, as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic began internationally, resulting in lockdowns and the promotion of social distancing. The concept for "I Miss One Week Ago" originated as she spent lockdown in her home with boyfriend Adnan Zukanovic, the song's producer. In the lyrics, Oh Land discusses how, prior to the pandemic, the difficulty of her daily struggles paled in comparison to the current day.

"Julefeber" is a song by Danish singer and songwriter Oh Land. Oh Land wrote the song with Jesper Mechlenburg, composer of the DR1 television series Julefeber (2020). Oh Land developed "Listen a Little Less" during a mentally-draining episode in her personal life, and used the song to regain her confidence.

A referendum on the abolition of the defence opt-out, one of the country's opt-outs from the European Union, was held in Denmark on 1 June 2022. The referendum was announced on 6 March 2022 following a broad multi-party defence agreement reached during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. <i>Loop Soup</i> 2023 studio album by Oh Land

Loop Soup is the sixth studio album by Danish singer and songwriter Oh Land. It was released on 29 September 2023 through Tusk or Tooth Records and the Universal Music Group. The album was supported by three singles prior to its release – "Bleeed", "My Freak", and "Bucket List" – and the promotional single "I'd Rather Sing". It was produced by her husband Adnan Zukanovic and Nick Labajewska "Vasco" Madsen, and features guest collaborations with Broods and Ximena Sariñana.
