Yellowstone (2018–2024)

1883 (2021–2022)

A prequel series, titled 1883 (also marketed on its Blu-ray and DVD release as 1883: A Yellowstone Origin Story [8] ) and set during that year, premiered on December 19, 2021, on Paramount+, and concluded after ten episodes on February 27, 2022. In February 2021, the series was announced as part of a five-year deal signed by Sheridan with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Group, under its working title Y: 1883. [9] [10] [11] It focuses on a generation of the Dutton family during the Old West as they undertake the arduous journey across the country before settling the land that would become the Yellowstone Ranch. The series stars Sam Elliott as Shea Brennan, Tim McGraw as James Dutton, Faith Hill as Margaret Dutton, and Isabel May as Elsa Dutton. [12] James is the great-grandfather of John Dutton III. Flashbacks of both James and Margaret Dutton are featured during the fourth season of Yellowstone.

In May 2022, a spinoff titled 1883: The Bass Reeves Story was ordered to series. [13] However, the series would later be retitled Lawmen: Bass Reeves and was confirmed to no longer take place in the Yellowstone universe. [14]

1923 (2022–2025)

Another prequel series, titled 1923, and set during that year, was announced in February 2022 [15] and premiered its first season on December 18, 2022, on Paramount+, and concluded on April 6, 2025, after two seasons consisting of sixteen episodes. [16] [17] Initially titled and set in the year 1932, [18] its title and setting was changed to 1923 during development. [19] [20] Being a sequel to 1883, it focuses on a new generation of the Dutton family during the time of Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression, which in Montana started a decade earlier. [21] [20] The series stars Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton, Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton, Brandon Sklenar as Spencer Dutton, and Julia Schlaepfer as Alexandra. Jacob is the great-great-uncle of John Dutton III while Spencer is John's grandfather. [18] [22]

The Madison

In May 2023, following the planned departure of Costner from Yellowstone during the fifth season, a sequel series with the working title 2024 [23] was announced as being in development with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star in the leading role. [24] [25] In August 2024, it was announced that the series was tentatively retitled The Madison with Michelle Pfeiffer set to star [26] [27] as wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn who moves her family from NYC to Montana in the wake of her husband and brother-in-law's tragic deaths in a plane crash. Kurt Russell, Patrick J. Adams and Beau Garrett were also reportedly in talks to star in main roles. [28] Later that month, Adams and Garrett officially joined the cast alongside Elle Chapman and Amiah Miller. [29] Production began in August 2024, with filming taking place in Montana, New York, and Texas. The series is expected to premiere sometime in 2025, following the conclusion of Yellowstone in late 2024. [28]

Y: Marshals

In March 2025, a procedural spinoff series with Yellowstone series regular Luke Grimes set to reprise his role as Kayce Dutton was confirmed to be in active development for CBS. [30] In May 2025, it was ordered to series with the working title Y: Marshals and is set to premiere in 2026 as part of the CBS midseason lineup. [31] In August 2025, Logan Marshall-Green joined the cast in a lead role. [32] Gil Birmingham, Moses Brings Plenty, and Brecken Merrill were confirmed to reprise their respective roles as Thomas Rainwater, Mo, and Tate Dutton respectively while Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Brett Cullen round out the main cast. [33]

In development

In February 2021, a spin-off series, titled 6666, was announced and would be set in the present day on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas [34] [35] and is planned to premiere on Paramount Network. [36] [37] The 6666 Ranch is also featured during the fourth and fifth seasons of Yellowstone.

In February 2023, another prequel series, titled 1944 and set during that year, was reportedly in development. It would serve as a sequel to 1923 and be filmed in the Bitterroot Valley. [38] In April 2025, the series was confirmed to still be in active development following the conclusion of 1923 with  Brandon Sklenar interested in reprising his role as Spencer Dutton. [39]

In August 2024, a spinoff series titled The Dutton Ranch with Yellowstone series regulars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser set to reprise their respective roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler was confirmed to be in development in place of a sixth season of Yellowstone. [40] [41] In July 2025, Finn Little was confirmed to reprise his role as Carter in the series. [42] In August 2025, the title for the series was confirmed as The Dutton Ranch.
