Ynyswen ( Welsh pronunciation ⓘ ; meaning White island) is a village in the community of Treorchy, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales.

Ynyswen consists mostly of housing. It has an industrial estate which was once the site of Burberry's factory, one shop, and the Forest View Medical Centre.

The area has several chapels and churches. Tynycoed Chapel, located between Ynyswen and Penycae, was first constructed in 1774, and was rebuilt in 1829. [1] [2]

Ynyswen school once stood where Ynyswen Welfare Hall now stands on Ynyswen rd. It was rebuilt in 1912 in a new location along the Rhondda River and closed in 2014 with the children to attend the newly built Penyrenglyn Primary School. Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Ynyswen is a Welsh primary school, established in 1950, that serves the upper Rhondda Valley. After leaving pupils attend Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Cwm Rhondda in Cymer, 5 miles down the valley.{ [3] }

Ynyswen railway station is on the Rhondda Line opened by British Rail.

On 5 March 2021 an incident, centred on a take-away restaurant in the village, led to the death of a 16-year-old girl and the arrest of two men, who had themselves suffered serious injuries. [4] [5] [6]

Oakdale is a large village in Caerphilly county borough, Wales, 9½ miles north of Caerphilly itself, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe is a Welsh-language comprehensive school based in Penlan, Swansea, southwest Wales. It opened in 2003 to complement Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr and to provide additional capacity following the increased demand for Welsh-medium education in the area. Upon its opening, it held only its own fresh intake, taking none of Gwyr's existing pupils. As a result, the school only reached its full complement of years 7-11 with its fifth intake of September 2007. As of September 2012 it has approximately 900 pupils on roll.

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd is a Welsh-medium secondary school for pupils aged between 11 and 18. The school is based in the village of Llangynwyd in the borough of Bridgend, Wales. The school opened on 3 September 2008 on the site of the former Maesteg Comprehensive Upper School in Llangynwyd. It is the only secondary school in the borough of Bridgend to use the Welsh language as the primary medium of education.

Ysgol Garth Olwg , English Garth Olwg School is a Welsh-medium comprehensive school in the village of Church Village near Pontypridd, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It was the first Welsh language comprehensive school in the south of Wales.
