Demographics

According to the State Statistics Committee, the total number of population was 9898.1 thousand. [1] The Youth in Azerbaijan aged 14–25, consisted of 25.5 percent of the population in 2018, numbering 2519,3 thousand individuals. 1302,4 of them were men, 1216,9 of were women. [2]

Youth policy

Youth policy of Azerbaijan is an important part of state policy. The state youth policy is a state-defined system of priorities and measures taken to create favorable conditions for young people, to realize their knowledge and skills, their natural potential. The state youth policy is implemented by government agencies, is reflected in the relevant legal documents. The main directions of youth policy are defined by the Law "On Youth Policy" of the Republic of Azerbaijan as follows: [3]

  1. Spiritual and moral upbringing of youth and their roles in cultural life;
  2. State care for talented youth;
  3. Health protection for young people and their physical development;
  4. Ensuring employment success for young people;
  5. State support to young families;
  6. State support to youth organizations.

The First Youth Forum of Azerbaijan was held on February 2, 1996, by the initiative of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. About 2000 delegates from all regions of the Republic participated in the forum. The objectives of state bodies, youth organizations and every young person were identified at the forum. [4]

Volunteering service

The "Azerbaijan Volunteering Service" is the Azerbaijani model of European Volunteer Service was created by National Council of Youth Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic in 2013 with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Republic. The objective of the program is advancing volunteering among young people and motivating to volunteering activities, leading to the development of voluntary philosophy, engaging youth and enlarge the activities of "Youth Houses". [5]

Youth House

In accordance with the article 5.5 of the AR 2002 "Youth Policy" adopted in 2007, "Strengthening of patriotic work among youth, their harmonious development and timing their spare time, psychological rehabilitation of youth "Youth house", social service foundations has been established according to related executive power in order to arrange legitimate and informational assistance. According to article #4.1.7 of the "State Youth Program of Azerbaijan" (2005-2009), it is planned to create a "Youth house" network of social services institution.

Youth Houses in Binagadi, Khazar, Garadagh, Sabunchu, Surakhani districts have been built and given to use concurring to the relevant passages of the Action Plan of the State Program on Socio-Economic Advancement of Baku and its rural settlements in 2011-2013.

It is arranged to build "Youth House" in Sumgayit, Ganja, Mingachevir, Shirvan, Gazakh, Shaki, Barda, Guba, Nakhchivan, and Shamakhy in accordance with the article #6.1.5 of the Action Plan of the State Program "Azerbaijani Youth in 2011-2015". The Youth Houses in Ganja, Mingechevir, Sumgayit, Shirvan, Nakhchivan, and Gazakh are already finished and given to use, and the constructions of Youth Houses in Sheki, Barda, Guba and Shamakhi districts are continuing and planned to be put into utilizing by the end of 2018. At the moment, the number of "Youth House" has reached 37.

The main purpose of "Youth homes" is creating a healthy condition to support and advancement of youth initiatives, recognize and realize youth like themselves, and also assist in the work of youth and sports institution in regions.

The direction of the activities of "Youth Houses": informal education; youth participation; psychosocial support; healthy lifestyle; choice of occupation; information-consulting; the arrangement of leisure time; volunteer activities and others.

Youth Foundation

The Youth Foundation under the President of the Republic was established by Decree No. 826 of the President dated February 7, 2011. The Foundation was established in accordance with Article 6.1.4 of the Action Plan on Implementation of the State Program on "Azerbaijani Youth in 2011-2015" which approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated July 7, 2011.

The main purpose of the foundation's activity is to support  science, culture, education and other social issues related with the youth strategy, including  international projects and programs (hereinafter - the project), focused on financing in a grant form, festival, conference, seminar, organization of the Olympics and other occasions, as well as other projects that provide financial assistance to young people.

The activities of the Foundation are as follows:

National Youth Day

The 2nd of February is celebrated as Youth Day in Azerbaijan. It was affirmed as Youth Day by the declare of President Heydar Aliyev in 1997. Youth Day was celebrated for the first time in Azerbaijan. Starting from 1996, the celebration of the Youth Day has been celebrated in other CIS countries and Eastern European countries, too.

Economy of Nakhchivan covers the issues related to the economy of the city of Nakhchivan, is the most important center of economic activity in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani art is the art created by Azerbaijanis. They have created rich and distinctive art, a major part of which is applied art items. This form of art rooted in antiquity, is represented by a wide range of handicrafts, such as chasing (metalworking), jewellery-making, engraving, carving wood, stone and bone, carpet-making, lacing, pattern weaving and printing, and knitting and embroidery. Each of these decorative arts is evidence of the culture and the abilities of the Azerbaijan nation, and are very popular there. Many interesting facts pertaining to the development of arts and crafts in Azerbaijan were reported by merchants, travellers and diplomats who visited these places at different times.

The Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan Republic is a governmental agency within the Cabinet of Azerbaijan in charge of regulation of the activities and promotion of Azerbaijani culture. The ministry is headed by Anar Karimov.

The Azerbaijan is a country with very favorable natural conditions and rich natural resources. Snowy peaks, high mountains, foothill fertile soils, wide plains, Lowest Land Points Below Ocean Level are the main landscape forms of the republic. This complex landscape structure has resulted in a variety of natural conditions, climate, soil-vegetation, and water resources. This, in turn, led to the uneven distribution of population and farms on the territory, and the specialization of production on different types.

Azerbaijan Public Employment Agency (APEA) is the state institution that implements various state policies in the field of ensuring full employment. Ensuring the employment of Azerbaijani citizens, the legal regulation of social protection of the unemployed and job-seeking citizens involve the National legislation and normative base consists of State Programs on socio-economic development, international agreements of which the Republic of Azerbaijan is a party, the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Employment, Unemployment Insurance and other relevant normative legal acts.

Utilities in Azerbaijan cover the topic of public utility services in the territory of Azerbaijani Republic. The utilities of Azerbaijan are provided by the government owned public utilities: “Azersu” for the water supply and waste management, “Azerishiq” and “Azerenerji” for electricity, “Azerigaz” for natural gas, “Azeristiliktechizat” for district heating.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mountainous Shirvan Economic Region</span> Economic region of Azerbaijan

Mountainous Shirvan Economic Region is one of the 14 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It borders the economic regions of Shaki-Zagatala, Guba-Khachmaz, Absheron-Khizi, Shirvan-Salyan, and Central Aran. The region consists of the districts of Agsu, Ismayilli, Gobustan, and Shamakhi. It has an area of 6,130 square kilometres (2,370 sq mi). Its population was estimated to be at 324.8 thousand people in January 2021.

The fruit sector in Azerbaijan is a developing industry. The sector covered 171,600 ha. of land in 2016. Grape, apple, orange, pear and pomegranate are one of the major crops in fruit production in Azerbaijan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ganja-Gazakh Economic Region</span> Former economic region in Azerbaijan

The Ganja-Gazakh Economic Region was one of the 10 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It consisted of Aghstafa, Dashkasan, Gadabay, Goranboy, Goygol, Gazakh, Samukh, Shamkir, Tovuz administrative districts, as well as the cities of Ganja and Naftalan. The most developed and important city of Ganja-Gazakh economic region was Ganja city. The total population was 1,265,200 as of January 1, 2017, representing about 13.6% of the country's population. In the economic region, 47 percent of the population lived in urban areas, and 53 percent lived in rural areas. Population density 103 people per km2 of land area.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Aran Economic Region</span> Former economic region in Azerbaijan

Aran Economic Region was one of the 10 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It bordered Iran to the south, as well as the economic regions of Upper Karabakh, Ganja-Gazakh, Shaki-Zagatala, Mountainous Shirvan, Absheron, and Lankaran. The region consisted of the districts of Agdash, Aghjabadi, Barda, Beylagan, Bilasuvar, Jalilabad, Goychay, Hajigabul, Imishli, Kurdamir, Neftchala, Saatly, Sabirabad, Salyan, Ujar, Yevlakh, Zardab and the cities of Mingachevir and Shirvan.

In the history of Azerbaijan, the Early Middle Ages lasted from the 3rd to the 11th century. This period in the territories of today's Azerbaijan Republic began with the incorporation of these territories into the Sasanian Persian Empire in the 3rd century AD. Feudalism took shape in Azerbaijan in the Early Middle Ages. The territories of Caucasian Albania became an arena of wars between the Byzantine Empire and the Sassanid Empire. After the Sassanid Empire was felled by the Arab Caliphate, Albania also weakened and was overthrown in 705 AD by the Abbasid Caliphate under the name of Arran. As the control of the Arab Caliphate over the Caucasus region weakened, independent states began to emerge in the territory of Azerbaijan.

Rabitabank - was founded on June 30, 1993. It is an open joint stock company operating in the banking sector in Azerbaijan.
