Yutaka Yamada (やまだ 豊, Yamada Yutaka, born March 14, 1989) is a Japanese composer, arranger, and orchestrator based in Los Angeles. His most notable works are the musical scores for Tokyo Ghoul and Vinland Saga .

Biography

Yutaka is an alumnus of the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Japan, where he studied musical composition under Toshiyuki Watanabe and Masataka Matsuo. [1] Yutaka has written scores for more than 40 projects, including the anime series Tokyo Ghoul , [2] the Japanese TV series Marumo no Okite (Marumo's Rule) and a number of TV commercials such as "Audi", "Samsung Galaxy" and "Georgia (Coca-Cola)".

Yutaka's work on Tokyo Ghoul attracted public attention shortly after its release in 2014. [3] Its original soundtrack, which includes the main theme song "Glassy Sky" (sung by Donna Burke), gained popularity and has over 50,000,000 views on YouTube. [4] In 2018, Eminem sampled "Glassy Sky" on the track "Good Guy" from his Kamikaze album. [5]

Yutaka has continued to produce popular music in collaboration with vocalists, including the tracks "Never Let Me Go" (sung by Julia Shortreed) and "Take My Hand" (sung by NIKIIE), both of which were ranked No. 1 on iTunes chart in Japan. [6] In 2017, Yutaka relocated to Los Angeles and began working with Soundtrack Music Associates for representation. [4]

Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It was serialized in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump from September 2011 to September 2014, with its chapters collected in 14 tankōbon volumes. The story is set in an alternate version of Tokyo where humans coexist with ghouls, beings who look like humans but can only survive by eating human flesh. Ken Kaneki is a college student who is transformed into a half-ghoul after an encounter with one of them. He must navigate the complex social and political dynamics between humans and ghouls while struggling to maintain his humanity.

Kingdom is an anime adaptation of a manga series of the same title written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara. On December 15, 2019, it was announced that the series will receive a third season along with a new production staff. The season aired from April 6, 2020, to October 18, 2021. On March 30, 2020, Funimation announced that they will stream the third season in U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland. On April 26, 2020, it was announced that after the fourth episode, the remaining episodes of the season would be delayed until further notice due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. On October 5, 2020, it was announced that weekly new episodes would resume April 5, 2021, starting from episode 1. On August 13, 2022, Funimation announced at 11:30 am Pacific Time, that the third season of the series would receive an English dub all 26 episodes.

Kingdom is an anime adaptation of a manga series of the same title written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara. At the end of the third season's final episode, a fourth season was announced, and aired from April 10 to October 2, 2022. The cast returned to reprise their roles. The opening theme is "Rei -ray-" performed by Suiren while the ending theme is "Genyou (Dazzling)" performed by Haku.
