Zachary Alley is an American football coach who is currently co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of Oklahoma. Alley won two national championships as a graduate assistant at Clemson University.

Coaching career

Clemson

After graduating from Charlotte Country Day School, where he played on both the defensive and offensive lines, Alley went to Clemson. [1] Alley began his coaching career as a student assistant his freshman year in 2011 and worked as an assistant his entire time as a student at Clemson. Once he graduated he became a graduate assistant from 2015 to 2018, [2] where he won two national championships under Dabo Swinney.

Boise State

A month after he was signed to be the nickels coach for the Charlotte 49ers, [3] Alley became the inside linebackers coach for the Broncos for the 2019 season. [2] For the 2020 season he coached the outside linebackers while also being the co-special teams coordinator. [4] During the season Alley contracted COVID-19. [5] [6] [7]

ULM

Under the recommendation of Brent Venables, Alley was hired by Terry Bowden to be the defensive coordinator for the Warhawks in 2021. [8] [9] [10] Only being 27 years old he was the youngest FBS coordinator.

Jacksonville State

When Rich Rodriguez was hired as the new head coach at Jacksonville State, after serving as the offensive coordinator at Louisiana-Monroe, he brought Alley with him as his defensive coordinator. [11]

Reginald Wayne Herring is an American football coach and former player and most recently the linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). A former linebacker at Florida State University, he began his coaching career in 1981. He has now coached for 36 years across college and the NFL. Herring arrived in Denver to coach linebackers in 2015 after previous stops in the league with Chicago (2014), Houston and Dallas (2008–10). Herring has coached nine linebackers who have made Pro Bowl appearances during their careers, including outside linebackers DeMarcus Ware (9), Mario Williams (4), and Connor Barwin (1), and inside linebackers Zach Thomas (7), Keith Brooking (5), Lance Briggs (7), Brian Cushing (1), Sean Lee (2) and DeMeco Ryans (2). Herring also served as the interim head football coach for the University of Arkansas in the 2008 Cotton Bowl Classic.

Thomas Brent Venables is an American college football coach who is the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma, a position he has held since the 2022 season. Venables served as the associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach at Clemson University from 2012 to 2021. He was awarded the Broyles Award in 2016.

Mike Collins is an American football coach and former player. He was the defensive coordinator at University of Louisiana at Monroe until unexpectedly stepping down on Sept. 3, 2020, just 10 days prior to ULM's first game of the season. He has formerly coached two different stints as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at McNeese State University. Collins was named interim head football coach at Louisiana–Monroe during the 2002 season.

Thomas Raymond Mason is an American football coach and former player. He served as the interim head football coach at Southern Methodist University (SMU) for the final 10 games of the 2014 season upon the resignation of June Jones, compiling a record of 1–9. Before that, he had been SMU's defensive coordinator since 2008. Mason also served as the interim head football coach at Boise State University for the first ten games of the 1996 season, compiling a record of 1–9.
