Demographics
The 2007 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 120,862, of whom 60,379 were men and 60,483 were women; 4,506 or 3.73% of its population were urban dwellers. The majority of the inhabitants said they were Muslim, with 91.04% of the population reporting they observed this belief, while 7.82% of the population practised Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. [2]
Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 120,121, of whom 60,700 are men and 59,421 are women; 4,338 or 3.61% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.3%. With an estimated area of 1,269.07 square kilometers, Ziway Dugda has an estimated population density of 94.7 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 132.2. [3]
The 1994 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 86,691, of whom 43,103 were men and 43,588 women; 2,424 or 2.8% of its population were urban dwellers at the time. The two largest ethnic groups reported in Ziway Dugda were the Oromo (94.84%), and the Amhara (1.43%); all other ethnic groups made up 3.73% of the population. Oromiffa was spoken as a first language by 94.35%, and 2.47% spoke Amharic; the remaining 3.18% spoke all other primary languages reported. The majority of the inhabitants were Muslim, with 89.56% of the population having reported they practiced that belief, while 10.17% of the population said they professed Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. Towns and cities in East Shewa include Bishoftu, Metehara, and Ziway. The town of Adama was separated from East Shewa and is a special zone now.
Jeju is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Arsi Zone, Jeju is bordered by Dodotana Sire to the west, the Misraq Shewa Zone to the north, Merti to the east, and Sude to the south. Its administrative centre is Arboye, located 168 kilometres southeast of Addis Ababa. Other towns in this woreda include Bolo.
Kofele is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is named after the administrative center of the woreda, Kofele. Part of the Mirab Arsi Zone, Kofele is bordered on the south by the Kokosa, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region, on the northwest by the Shashamene Zuria, on the north by Kore, on the east by Gedeb Asasa, and on the south east by Dodola. Other towns in Kofele include Wabe Gefersa.
Nono is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is named after the Nono Oromo, a subgroup of the Macha Oromo, who live in this area. Part of the West Shewa Zone, Nono is bordered on the southwest by the Gibe River which separates it from the Jimma Zone, on the northwest by Dano, on the north by Cheliya, on the northeast by Tikur, on the east by the Southwest Shewa Zone, and on the southeast by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region. Jibat woreda was part of Nono woreda.
Elu is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Southwest Shewa Zone, Elu is bordered on the south by Becho, on the west by Dawo, on the north by West Shewa Zone, and on the east by the Awash which separates it from Alem Gena. Towns in Elu include Debre Genet and Tagi.
Ada'a is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is part of the former Ada'a Chukala woreda what was divided between Ada'a and Liben woredas. Part of the East Shewa Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Ada'a is bordered on the south by Dugda Bora, on the west by the West Shewa Zone, on the northwest by Akaki, on the northeast by Gimbichu, and on the east by Lome.
Fentale is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Shewa Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Fentale is bordered on the southeast by the Arsi Zone, on the southwest by Boset, on the northwest by the Amhara Region, and on the northeast by the Afar Region. The administrative center of Fentale is Metehara; other towns include Haroo Adii.

The administrative center of the woreda is Welenchiti; other towns in Boset include Bofe, Bole and Doni.
Adama Zuria is one of the districts, or woredas, in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Shewa Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Adama Zuria is bordered on the south by the Arsi Zone, on the southwest by Koka Reservoir which separates it from Dugda Bora, on the west by Lome, on the north by the Amhara Region, and on the east by Boset; the Awash River, the only important river in this woreda, defines the woreda boundaries on the east and south. Other towns in this woreda include Awash Melkasa, Shewa Alemtena, Sire Robi, Sodere and Wenji Gefersa.
Dugda is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It was part of the former woreda of Dugda Bora what was divided between Bora and Dugda woredas. Part of the Misraq Shewa Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Dugda Bora is bordered on the southeast by Lake Zway, on the south by Adami Tullu and Jido Kombolcha, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the northwest by the Debub Mirab (Southwest) Shewa Zone, on the north by the Awash River which separates it from Ada'a Chukala, on the northeast by Koka Reservoir which separates it from Adama, and on the east by the Arsi Zone. The administrative center of Dugda is Meki.
Adami Tullu and Jido Kombolcha is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Shewa Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Adami Tullu and Jido Kombolcha is bordered on the south by Mirab Arsi Zone with which it shares the shores of Lakes Abijatta and Langano, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the north by Dugda Bora, on the northeast by Lake Zway, and on the east by the Arsi Zone. The main town of woreda is Adami Tullu; other towns include Abosa, Bulbulla, and Jido.
Arsi Negele is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is named after its administrative center, Arsi Negele. Part of the Mirab Arsi Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Arsi Negele is bordered on the south by Shashamene Zuria, on the southwest by Lake Shala which separates it from Shala, on the west from the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the north by Misraq Shewa with which it shares the shores of Lakes Abijatta and Langano, and on the east by the Arsi Zone.
Shashamene Zuria is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is named after the town of Shashamene what was separated from this woreda. Part of the Mirab Arsi Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Shashamene is bordered on the south by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the west by Shala, on the north by Arsi Negele, on the east by the Kore, and on the southeast by Kofele. The largest town in Shashamene is Kuyera.
Merti is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Arsi Zone, Merti is bordered on the south by Sude, on the west by Jeju, on the northwest by the Misraq Shewa Zone, on the north by the Afar Region, on the east by Aseko, and on the southeast by Chole. The administrative center of this woreda is Abomsa; other towns in Merti include Reye. Guna woreda was separated from Merti.

The administrative center for the woreda is Dera; other towns include Awash Melkasa.
Hitosa is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Woreda of Lude Hitosa was separated from Hitosa. Part of the Arsi Zone, Hitosa is bordered on the south by Digeluna Tijo, on the southwest by Tiyo, on the west by Ziway Dugda, on the northwest by the Misraq Shewa Zone, on the northeast by Dodotana Sire, and on the east by Tena. The administrative center of the woreda is Iteya; other towns include Borujawi and Ligaba.
