Zuarungu is a town in the Upper East Region of Ghana [1] east of Bolgatanga. The village is the capital of the Bolgatanga East District. The people living in Zuarungu are part of the Frafra tribe. Frafra and English are commonly spoken.

Markets

Zuarungu holds one main market. This one is called Tu'an (Frafra for Baobab Tree) and is named after a Baobab tree that used to stand there when the marked was founded. Tu'an is found around the eastern end of the DVLA Road in Zuarungu.

Additionally, there is the Timber Market which is located north of N11 in Yarigabisi. Although this market is mainly for wood you can also buy many other things there.

Many of the communities of Zuarungu have their own dams which are mainly used for agriculture. During the dry season the water is used by cattle to drink and also to water plants to make farming possible while no rain is falling.

Zonno-Zori

Zonno-Zori (locally also Zonzori) is a hill chain east of Zuarungu near the communities of Zonno and Nyorkoko. It is formed by four main hills and many smaller hills. None of the hills of Zonzori has a name. The maximum elevation of the hills is 348 m. Zori is Frafra and can be translated as mountain or rock.

It may carry pejorative overtones in local usage. Frafra-language speakers number approximately 300,000. The larger group of Gurunsi people inhabit southern Burkina Faso and Upper East of Ghana.

West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly is one of the six districts in North East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as West Mamprusi District, which was created from the former Mamprusi District Council, until the western part of the district was split off on 28 June 2012 to create Mamprugu-Moagduri District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Mamprusi District. However, on 15 March 2018, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become West Mamprusi Municipal District. Pedro Bank is a large bank of sand and coral, partially covered with seagrass, about 80 km south and southwest of Jamaica, rising steeply from a seabed of 800 metres depth. It slopes gently from the Pedro Cays to the west and north with depths from 13 to 30 metres. The total area of the bank within the 100-metre (328-foot) isobath measures 8,040 square kilometres. The area of a depth to 40 metres is triangular, 70 kilometres long east-west, and 43 kilometres wide. 2,400 square kilometres are less than 20 metres deep. With its islets, cays and rocks, a total land area of 270,000 m2 (2,906,256 sq ft), it is the location of one of the two offshore island groups of Jamaica, the other one being the Morant Cays. The bank is centered at 17°06′N78°20′W.

<i>Adansonia digitata</i> Species of plant

Adansonia digitata, the African baobab, is the most widespread tree species of the genus Adansonia, the baobabs, and is native to the African continent and the southern Arabian Peninsula. These are long-lived pachycauls; radiocarbon dating has shown some individuals to be over 2,000 years old. They are typically found in dry, hot savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, where they dominate the landscape and reveal the presence of a watercourse from afar. They have traditionally been valued as sources of food, water, health remedies or places of shelter and are a key food source for many animals. They are steeped in legend and superstition. In recent years, many of the largest, oldest trees have died, for unknown reasons. Common names for the baobab include monkey-bread tree, upside-down tree, and cream of tartar tree.

Talensi-Nabdam District is a former district that was located in Upper East Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Bolgatanga District in August 2004. The district assembly was located in the central part of Upper East Region and had Tongo as its capital town.

Farefare or Frafra, also known by the regional name of Gurenne (Gurene), is a Niger–Congo language spoken by the Frafra people of northern Ghana, particularly the Upper East Region, and southern Burkina Faso. It is a national language of Ghana, and is closely related to Dagbani and other languages of Northern Ghana, and also related to Mossi, also known as Mooré, the national language of Burkina Faso.

Pobaga is a small village in the Bolgatanga Municipal District. Pobaga is located in the regional capital, Upper East Region. The Intercity STC Bus Station in Bolgatanga is located in Pobaga. Other villages near Pobaga are Damweo, Tindonmolgo and Gambibgo. The nearest villages are Tindonmolgo and Damweo. The name Pobaga is accredit to a deity or god called Apobaga, reverenced by the people of Tindonmolgo. The people of Pobaga are (Gurunsi) Frafra people. The Pobaga community is blessed with a high school and several basic schools.

Ndaakoya Festival is a festival celebrated by the Frafra, Talensi, and Nabdan speaking communities in the Upper East Region Of Ghana. It is usually celebrated in the early months of every new year to thank God for a successful harvest during the farming season.
