The 2011 Dallas mayoral election took place on May 14, 2011, to elect the successor to incumbent Mayor Tom Leppert. Leppert decided not to run for a second term, deciding to instead run for United States Senate in 2012. The race is officially nonpartisan. After no candidate received a majority of the votes, the top two candidates – Mike Rawlings and David Kunkle – faced each other in a runoff election on June 18, 2011 in which Rawlings prevailed.
On January 16, 2011, Mayor Tom Leppert announced that he would not run for reelection. [1] Republican City Councilman Ron Natinsky was the first major candidate to announce his candidacy, on January 19, 2011. [2] Democratic former Police Chief David Kunkle announced his candidacy on January 31, 2011. [3] Democratic former CEO of Pizza Hut Mike Rawlings was the last major candidate to announce his candidacy, on February 11, 2011. [4] Republican Edward Okpa entered the race last around the filing period. For the general elections, Rawlings raised over $1.5 million, while Natinsky raised about $400,000, Kunkle raised just under $200,000, and Okpa raised just over $100,000. Rawlings was endorsed by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk as well as city council members Tennell Atkins, Vonciel Jones Hill, and Carolyn Davis. Kunkle was endorsed by former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller. Natinsky was endorsed by acting mayor and councilman Dwaine Caraway, and council members Jerry Allen, Delia Jasso, Sheffie Kadane, Linda Koop, and Dave Neumann.
The runoff between Rawlings and Kunkle ensured that Dallas' mayor would be a Democrat after Republican Tom Leppert had run city hall for four years. During the runoff, Rawlings continued to dominate in fund-raising as he had in the general election. Rawlings was endorsed by both defeated general election candidates – Ron Natinsky and Edward Okpa. [5] Rawlings was also endorsed by several council members who had originally backed Natinsky, such as Jerry Allen, Delia Jasso, Sheffie Kadane, and Linda Koop as well as Ann Margolin, Pauline Medrano, and Steve Salazar, who all three had stayed neutral in the original general election.

The first round of the New Orleans mayoral election of 2006 took place on April 22, 2006; a runoff between incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin and Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu took place on May 20, resulting in reelection for Mayor Nagin. The Mayor of New Orleans is the top official in New Orleans' mayor-council system of government.
Thomas Chris Leppert is an American businessman and former politician who is the former CEO of Kaplan, Inc., one of the world's largest education providers. He had oversight of the company's operating divisions until his resignation was announced in July 2015. Leppert, a member of the Republican Party, previously served as the 59th mayor of Dallas, Texas from 2007 to 2011 and was unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2012.
The 2012 United States Senate election in Texas was held on November 6, 2012, along with other elections to the United States Senate the United States House of Representatives in additional states. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison decided to retire instead of running for reelection to a fourth full term. This was the first open seat in this seat since 1957.
The 2011 United States elections were held on Tuesday, November 8. This was an off-year election, in which the only seats up for election in the United States Congress were special elections. There were also four gubernatorial races, including a special election in West Virginia. There were also state legislative elections in four states and judicial elections in three states; as well as numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local offices on the ballot.
The 2009 New York City Public Advocateelection took place on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, along with elections for the mayor, the city comptroller, borough presidents, and members of the New York City Council. The Democratic candidate, Bill de Blasio, won election with 77% of the vote against 18% for the Republican nominee, Alex Zablocki, 3.6% for the Conservative nominee, William Lee, and 1.7% for two others.
Dan H. Branch is an American politician who served as the Texas State Representative for the 108th district from 2003 to 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he represented part of Dallas. On July 25, 2013, Branch officially announced his candidacy for Texas Attorney General in the 2014 Republican primary election, in which he was defeated by Ken Paxton.
Dwaine R. Caraway is an American former politician, and convicted felon who served as the 60th mayor of Dallas in 2011, in an interim capacity. He pleaded guilty in 2018 for taking bribes while serving as mayor pro tem. He served as a Dallas City Council member until his resignation on August 9, 2018.

The 2007 Dallas mayoral election took place on May 12, 2007, to elect the successor to incumbent Mayor Laura Miller. Miller decided not to run for a second full term. The race is officially nonpartisan. After no candidate received a majority of the votes, the top two candidates - Tom Leppert and Ed Oakley - faced each other in a runoff election on June 16, 2007 in which Leppert prevailed.
On May 9, 2015, the city of San Antonio, Texas, held an election to choose the next Mayor of San Antonio. Interim mayor Ivy Taylor ran for election to a full term and narrowly defeated former state senator Leticia Van de Putte in the runoff election on June 13, 2015, to become the first African American elected to the position.
The 2018 Texas gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the governor of Texas, concurrently with the election of Texas's Class I U.S. Senate seat, as well as other congressional, state and local elections throughout the United States and Texas. Incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott won re-election to a second term in office defeating Democratic nominee Lupe Valdez, the former sheriff of Dallas County, and Libertarian nominee Mark Tippetts, a former member of the Lago Vista city council.
On May 6, 2017, the city of San Antonio, Texas held an election to choose the next mayor of San Antonio. As no candidate secured a majority of the vote, a runoff was held on June 10, 2017 with Councilman Ron Nirenberg defeating incumbent mayor Ivy Taylor.
On May 4, 2019, the city of San Antonio, Texas held an election to choose the next mayor of San Antonio. The election was a nonpartisan blanket primary. As no candidate secured a majority of the vote, a runoff was held on June 8, 2019, between the two top candidates, incumbent mayor Ron Nirenberg and San Antonio City Councilman Greg Brockhouse. In the runoff, Nirenberg narrowly defeated Brockhouse, 51.11% to 48.89%.
The 2020 United States House of Representatives elections in Texas was held on November 3, 2020, to elect the 36 U.S. representatives from the state of Texas, one from each of the state's 36 congressional districts. The elections coincided with the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as well as other elections to the House of Representatives, elections to the U.S. Senate and various state and local elections. Primaries were held on March 3 and run-offs were held on July 14.
On May 4, 2019, the city of Dallas, Texas, held an election to choose the next Mayor of Dallas. The election began as a nonpartisan blanket primary, no candidate took a majority of over 50% of the total vote so the two top vote-earners Eric Johnson and Scott Griggs advanced to a runoff election on June 8. Incumbent mayor Mike Rawlings was unable to run for reelection due to term limits. Dallas also concurrently elected all 14 members of its city council, and 3 of the 9 total members of the Dallas Independent School District. Johnson won the runoff with 55.61%.
The 2021 San Antonio mayoral election was held on May 1, 2021 to decide the mayor of San Antonio, Texas. The election was a nonpartisan blanket primary election. The incumbent mayor Ron Nirenberg won a third two-year term.
The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in Wisconsin were held on November 8, 2022, to elect the eight U.S. representatives from the state of Wisconsin, one from each of the state's eight congressional districts. The elections coincided with other elections to the House of Representatives, elections to the United States Senate, and various state and local elections. Primaries were held on August 9, 2022. The Republican Party won a majority of Wisconsin's U.S. House delegation as well as, notably, 55.5 percent of the statewide vote.
The 2021 Texas's 6th congressional district special election was held on May 1, 2021. The seat became vacant after incumbent Republican Ron Wright died on February 7 of COVID-19.
The 2022 San Jose mayoral election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect the next mayor of San Jose for a two-year term. A top-two primary was held on June 7, 2022, and no candidate received more than 50% in this primary election. Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez and San Jose City Councilmember Matt Mahan advanced to a November 8 runoff election. On November 16, Cindy Chavez conceded the race to Matt Mahan.
The 2022 Shreveport mayoral election took place on November 8, 2022, with a runoff election on December 10 because no candidate obtained a majority of the vote in the first round. It selected the next mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana. Incumbent Democratic mayor Adrian Perkins sought re-election to a second term in office, but finished fourth in the general election. Former Shreveport City Councillor Tom Arceneaux, a Republican, and Louisiana state senator Gregory Tarver, a Democrat, advanced to the runoff election. Besides Perkins, other candidates eliminated in the general election include Caddo Parish Commission president Mario Chavez and city councillor LeVette Fuller.
