Kollam City Police - Official website

The Kollam City Police is the law enforcement agency concerned with the maintenance of law and order in the Indian city of Kollam and the municipalities of Karunagappalli (Karunagappally division) and Paravur (Chathannoor division) along with several towns in Kollam district. [3] [4] Kollam City Police is the first ISO 9001 certified law enforcement agency in Kerala state and second one in India. The Kollam City Police has about 2,200 officers and handles an average of 35000 cases per year. [5] [6]

History

In the pre-independence era, Kerala was divided into princely states of Travancore and Cochin and the Malabar region for the smooth administration. There was no Commissionerate in Kollam until 2011. The whole district police was administered by DySP of Kollam, Karunagappally, Kottarakkara and Punalur. As per the Government Order no 32/2011/Home dated 5 February 2011, Kollam district police was divided into Kollam Urban Police District (Kollam City Police) and Kollam Rural Police District. The City Police is headed by a City Police Commissioner(CP), with its headquarters at Kollam. The rural police is headed by the District Police Chief (DPC), with its headquarters at Kottarakkara. Both heads report to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Thiruvananthapuram Range (Kerala). [7] The Kollam City Police came into existence on 1 March 2011 following the division of the Kollam District Police force into the Kollam City Police and the Kollam Rural Police.

Location

The office of the Kollam's City Police Commissioner is situated near the Armed Reserve Police Force camp in Kollam Cantonment.

There are a total of 17 police stations under the control of Kollam City Police, eight of which are under the control of the Kollam Division with four further stations under Karunagappally and Chathannoor divisions respectively. [8] [9] [10]

City Police Commissioners

The Office is presently headed by Smt. Merin Joseph IPS, [lower-alpha 1] Commissioner of Police, who is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as administrative control vests with the Home Ministry of Kerala. Departments such as administration, the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), Crime Detachment and Special Branch are each headed by an Assistant commissioner.

Karunagappally is a municipality in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is 24 km north of Kollam and 60 km (37 mi) south of Alappuzha. Karunagappally taluk consists of Alappad, Ochira, Adinad, Karunagappally, Thazhava, Pavumba, Thodiyoor, Kallalibhagom, Thevalakkara, Chavara, Neendakara, Clappana, Kulasekharapuram, Thekkumbhagam, Ayanivelikulangara, Panmana, Ponmana and Vadakumthala. The taluk is bound on the north by Kayamkulam, on the east by Kunnathur taluk, on the south by Kollam and on the west by the Arabian Sea. It is one of the fastest developing towns in Kerala and is part of Kollam metropolitan area.

Kalluvathukkal is a village in the Kollam district of the Indian state of Kerala. NH 47 passes through the village.There ia an Lower primary and Upper primary schools in kalluvathukkal panchayath. And Kalluvathukkal panchayat has its own school, classes from class 5th to 10th standard. A small stadium is located next to the school. The nearest towns are Chathannoor and Paripally. The place is infamous for the Kalluvathukkal hooch tragedy, which took place on 21 October 2000 and killed 31 people.

Nedungolam or Nedumgolam is the Northern border town of Paravur municipality in the Kollam district of Kerala state, India. Nedungolam is very near to the world-famous-wetland in Kollam district, Polachira, which is a favorite destination for migratory birds. A census conducted on 2003 reveals that over 26,000 birds belonging to 37 species are visiting or living in the Polachira wetlands.

The Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction Kollam or IIIC-Kollam is a public institute of international standard situated at Chavara in Kollam, Kerala. The initiative has been undertaken by the Government of Kerala with the support of the Government of India. The academy is coming under the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) to support the skill development programmes for construction related occupations
