Antonia Coello Novello is a Puerto Rican physician and public health administrator. She was a vice admiral in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and served as 14th Surgeon General of the United States from 1990 to 1993. Novello was the first woman and first Hispanic to serve as Surgeon General. Novello also served as Commissioner of Health for the State of New York from 1999 to 2006. Novello has received numerous awards including more than fifty honorary degrees, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2000, and has been inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. Her memoir, Duty Calls: Lessons Learned from an Unexpected Life of Service, was published in 2024.

Along with this, veterinarians also play a role in animal reproduction, health management, conservation, husbandry and breeding and preventive medicine like nutrition, vaccination and parasitic control as well as biosecurity and zoonotic disease surveillance and prevention.

The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSUCHM) is an academic division of Michigan State University (MSU) that grants the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, emphasizing patient-centered care and a biopsychosocial approach to caring for patients. Required courses at the college reinforce the importance of ethics and professionalism in medicine. In 2013, U.S. News & World Report ranked the college 46th for primary care. The college was also ranked for family medicine and rural medicine. More than 4,000 M.D.s have graduated from the college. Henry Ford Health is an integrated, not-for-profit health care organization in Metro Detroit. The corporate office is at One Ford Place, in Midtown Detroit, Michigan. Henry Ford established the health system in 1915, and it is currently run by a 15-member board of directors. Henry Ford Health also owns the health insurance company Health Alliance Plan.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is the teaching hospital trauma center, neonatal intensive care unit, geriatrics center, and is home to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, the only adult burn trauma in Maryland, containing about 420 beds. Located in southeast Baltimore City, Maryland, along Eastern Avenue near Bayview Boulevard, it is part of the Johns Hopkins Health System and named after its close proximity to the Chesapeake Bay. Founded in 1773 as an almshouse, it was relocated several times until its now present location in 1866. In 1925, it transitioned into several municipal hospitals, which transferred ownership to Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1984.

Beaumont Health was Southeast Michigan’s largest health care system and was headquartered in Southfield, Michigan. It merged with Spectrum Health of West Michigan in 2022 to form Corewell Health, with the headquarters of the new health system being located in Grand Rapids. At the time of its merger, the health system had a net revenue of $4.7 billion and consisted of eight hospitals with 3,375 beds, 155 outpatient sites, nearly 5,000 physicians, more than 33,000 employees and about 2,000 volunteers. The flagship hospital of the system was the Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, located in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, Michigan.

They used to operate in Ohio, but ended up shutting down St. Luke’s Hospital, and selling both the hospital, along with WellCare Physicians Group, to Bon Secours Mercy Health.

The Helen DeVos Children's Hospital (HDCH) is a nationally ranked, freestanding, 241-bed, pediatric acute care children's hospital located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is affiliated with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and is a member of the Corewell Health system, the only children's hospital in the system. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to infants, children, teens, and young adults aged 0–18 throughout Grand Rapids region and features an ACS verified level I pediatric trauma center. Its regional pediatric intensive-care unit and neonatal intensive care units serve the region. It is named for Helen DeVos, wife of Amway founder Richard DeVos, a major donor.

St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center is a 296-bed not-for-profit hospital located on Long Island in Smithtown, New York. The hospital opened in 1962 as St. John's Smithtown Hospital and its name was changed to its present in 1999. It is a major regional clinical campus for clinical clerkships and postgraduate medical training affiliated with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, one of the largest medical schools in the United States. Since 2000, the hospital has been operated by Catholic Health.
