Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2010 census, the population was 61,778. Its county seat is Marietta. The county, the oldest in the state, is named for George Washington.

History

A post office called Luke Chute was established in 1880, and remained in operation until 1901. [2] According to tradition, the name of the community is derived from the command from a father to his son while hunting, specifically "Luke shoot, or give up the gun". [3]
