Odisha, formerly Orissa, is an Indian state located in Eastern India. It is the eighth-largest state by area, and the eleventh-largest by population, with over 41 million inhabitants. The state also has the third-largest population of Scheduled Tribes in India. It neighbours the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal to the north, Chhattisgarh to the west, and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to the south. Odisha has a coastline of 485 kilometres (301 mi) along the Bay of Bengal in Indian Ocean. The region is also known as Utkaḷa and is mentioned by this name in India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The language of Odisha is Odia, which is one of the Classical languages of India.

The name is an anglicized form of Kataka or Katak meaning Fort – referring to the Barabati Fort. Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Police Commissionerate, established in 2008, is a city police force with primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within the metropolitan area of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. It was formed under the Orissa Urban Police Act, 2003 by a gazette notification which came into effect on 1 January 2008. It has 43 police stations under its jurisdiction. Mr. Sanjeeb Panda, IPS is currently the Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Police Commissionerate.
Jeypore Airport, also known as Jayapur Airport, is a domestic airport serving the cities of Jeypore and Koraput in Odisha, India. It is located 3 km (1.9 mi) north-west of the city of Jeypore in Koraput district. The airstrip was constructed in 1962 along with the establishment of a Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) factory nearby at Sunabeda. In the 1980s, Vayudoot operated a daily Bhubaneswar-bound flight via Visakhapatnam. Now, the new low-cost regional airline, IndiaOne Air, operates from the airport to Bhubaneswar and Vishakapatnam.
The Special Operation Group (SOG) is an elite Commando unit raised by the Odisha Police to combat the Left Wing extremists in Odisha. They also have a small group that can carry out other counter-terrorist operations like hostage situation and building intervention. The force specializes in jungle warfare and have been hugely successful in controlling violence by armed guerillas of the Left Wing extremist groups, more popularly called 'Naxalites' in India.
District Voluntary Force (DVF) is a special constabulary unit of the Odisha Police. They are primarily used in anti-Maoist operations. It was formed in 2009.
The Kerala Police is the law enforcement agency for the Indian state of Kerala. Kerala Police has its headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital. The motto of the force is "Mridhu Bhave Dhrida Kruthye" which means "Soft in Temperament, Firm in Action" in Sanskrit. It operates under the Department of Home Affairs, Government of Kerala. The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) is a specialised unit of Odisha Police constituted "To act immediately in case of disaster which may be due to natural calamity or industrial accident" by a state home department resolution.
