Kollampronunciation (help·info), known by its former name Quilonpronunciation (help·info) and Coulão, and Desinganadu, is an old seaport and city on the Laccadive Sea coast of the Indian state of Kerala. It is situated 66 kilometers north of the state capital Trivandrum. The city is on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake. Kollam is popularly called as the 'God's own Capital'.

It is one of the two lighthouses in the Kollam Metropolitan Area and is maintained by the Cochin Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. In operation since 1902, the cylindrical lighthouse tower painted with white and red oblique bands has a height of 41 metres (135 ft), making it the second tallest lighthouse in Kerala coast. The Asramam Link Road is an important four-lane city road in Kollam in the Indian state of Kerala. This road was formerly known as Airport Road or Aerodrome Road as it was the connection road to Kollam Airport, the one and only airport in the entire Kerala coast then. The road starts from Kappalandimukku near Polayathode in the east and currently ends at KSRTC, but is ultimately planned to extend to Thoppilkadavu in the west of the city. The Rs.114 crore worth third phase of construction includes a 3 km long flyover, which would extend it from Kollam KSRTC Bus Station to Thoppilkadavu, is going on now.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Kollam or KV Kollam is a central government owned Kendriya Vidyalaya school in Kollam. The school is located at Ramankulangara in the city. The school has set up in the year 2007 at Mulangadakam. KV Kollam was officially inaugurated on 6 August 2007 by P. Rajendran, the then MP of Kollam. Now the school is functioning in a temporary building provided by the City corporation of Kollam.
